my brief thoughts on cambridge.

i am surprised no one has put a show review on here.
first it was nice to see pav again and very briefly see wickerman.
thanks to the new george clooney movie ( had to keep the missus happy) and the rediculous parking at the venue i arrived just as glenn hit the stage, as he was late thank god.
as pav has said else where this show was recorded and filmed.
all being well, this will see the light of day.
still waiting far last years legends of rock uli?
also whats that other band that starts being filmed and then the lead singer gets rid of the camera crew half way through the show?
the name slips me now, unlike of course, mostly autumn and the hotly anticipated york dvd.
i dont want to give to much away, but having said that pav says the set last night was not the same as bradford.
i still cant believe no one from here went to dudley!
anyway, i loved in my blood.
this really rocked.
i hated how glenn has now changed mistreated.
instead of giving it the full welly like he did at htp and legends last year, he now gets the crowd to sing along.
yes there is plenty of purple and solo stuff.
there was an encore but sadly no burn, which really upset me!
for those going to london, the merchandise was virtually non existant.
there was only size small black t shirt of the 73 design from the last tours.
also the last 3 albums were available to buy and that was it!
that then explains how glenn would only sign 3 items per person at the meet and greet after and did not pose for a photo with anybody in the time i was there, but was happy for photos to be taken of him.
i am really hoping that london will be better, but i have to say that maybe glenn having done the hard work in the last 3 years i have seen him, is now getting a little comfortable?

Well done, the best piece of gratuitous slipping in a Mostly Autumn plug on a flimsy excuse I've ever seen emoticon

Hi Mcpurple. It was indeed a pleasure to (albeit briefly) meet you. A big hello to Pav as well, I really enjoyed our chat.
I really enjoyed the show (right down the front - with Pav for half the gig) although was disapointed at the exclusion of Burn.
What was the Trapeze number that he did? I really liked that. Thought Seventh Star was very good too.
The after show meet wasn't as good as LOR at the Corn Exchange last year. I got the impression that the staff wanted him out (curfew at 11pm Sunday's) and Glenn (or rather the girl selling the merchandise) was rushing people through. He signed my covers of SITKOR, Stormbringer and Come Taste while he was talking to some woman, who just wouldn't go! Mind you I did persuaded him to have his photo taken with me, but the flash didn't work (bloody throw away camera's!). Gabbi also went all the way through her handbag to find me a pick - not a signiture one though BAH!
He did say that he was going to return to Cambridge next year, so fingers crossed HTP will be on there.
I hope you get your laminated "Glenn Hughes will be signing after the show" sign sent to you Pav.

BTW I thought the support band "Firebird" were very good, worth watching out for!

Personally,

I thought Glenns performance was awesome. His vocals on Written All over Your Face was out of this world.
I believe Glenn gave it everything he had vocally and I was very pleased to hear Glenns material at the expense of Purple covers.

This guy can sing and it is perhaps unacceptable to some but I would rather hear his material than Glenn doing his Deep Purple tribute thing.

Anyway Glenn could show Purple a thing or two about playing a mixed set of numbers from all his portfolio without resorting to "expected standards"

The small audience and poor venue did not help create the kind of atmosphere that this type of music demands, Bradford by comparison was packed and the vibe incredible.

Anyway come back soon Glenn..we're waiting!!!!

P.S big hello to Wickerman enjoyed your company..hope some of your photos come out....and no, no laminate has turned up yet..
