What movie did you watch lately?

Hi,

I don't know if a thread like this exist already. Did not find one.

I saw VOLVER with Penelope Cruz this evening. A friend of mine won tickets.

It was

HORRIBLE!

Okay, this is a film made for women which I am not. Nevertheless my very objective opinion: unbearable crap! A spanish soap opera (or telenovela) badly produced for the big screen. Brutal performances by all actresses, a predictbable story full of complete pointless dialogues (but not the cool kind of those), shortly: emoticon

So my advice: if you look for a present for your ennemies: give them tix for this movie!

I generally like Almadovar's films. They're hardly the equivalent of telenovelas, he's a great director. That being said I haven't seen this yet, I hate movie theaters.

Midnight Movies: From The Margin To The Mainstream

An insightful and enjoyable documentary about the great midnight movies and film makers of the 1970s detailing the story and film historical significance 6 landmark underground films.

El Topo (Alejandro Wodorowsky, 1970)

Italo-Western Styled exploation from Mexico. One of the great cult classics, still not out on DVD! Long out of print on VHS!

The Night Of The Living Dead (George A. Romero, 1968)

THE classic Zombie flick, they are slow and creepy. And it opened up new polictial dimenions. One of the cheapest made films in history!

Pink Flamingo´s (John Waters, 1972)

John Waters classical pervert scandal film, killed chicken, poodle crap and all.

The Harder They Come (Perry Henzell, 1973)

The classic reggea movie, one of the longest ever running films in history. Starring Jimmy Cliff who also did the soundtrack that acheived cult status on it´s own!("The Harder They Come", "You Can Get It If You Really Want").

Rocky Horror Picture Show (Richard O´Brian, 1975)

Barry Bostwick, Susan Surandon, Meat Loaf, Tim Curry, Suspenders, Rice, Song&Dance, Cult Soundtrack and a "mercy kill". Need I say more?

Eraserhead (David Lynch, 1977)

David Lynch´s undescribably sound&vision experience debut. This was basically a student´s project! It still blows everybody´s brains out almost 30 years after it´s release.

It couldn't be worse than "down with love". My sister dragged me along to see this cause she heard it was good and when it finished she kept apologising to me cause it was so bad.
I actually watched 'There's something about Mary' last night and although it's a predictible chic flick I thought it was very funny emoticon

I'm getting the spaghetti western trilogy for my birthday so I'm looking forward to sitting down and watching all of them soon emoticon

Werner Herzog's doumentary, "Grizzly Man"...I only regret that the lens cap was on this burn-out's (Tim Treadwell, the subject of the documentary, not Herzog) video camera when he got eaten by a grizzly bear.

Is that out now? If it´s out in the US it should have been out over here ages ago! emoticon

Didn´t notice that!

In retrospective I found it funny that a bavarian made a documentary about a bear, now that the beer´s been going wild in our part of the world actually! emoticon

And remember he´s a "method director"! emoticon

Re: What movie did you watch lately?

I believe the film was just released in 2005, Milan. I'm not sure if it got released theatrically here in the U.S or went straight to dvd rentals and cable television, where I saw it on the Discovery Channel the other night.
My problem with people like Treadwell is thier delusion that just because a grizzly bear (or lion, or shark, or whatever wild animal) doesn't attack & eat you, that that means it likes you...er, no. The animal just didn't feel like eating you at that particular time is/was all. Kinda like advice I once heard from a scuba diver about what to do if a shark looks like it's going to attack you - punch it on the nose! Yeah, right! emoticon And when that doesn't work - poke it's eyes out with the stub of the bone that's protruding from your recently bit off arm. emoticon/emoticon It's similar to that circus guy who worked with the same tiger for years & years in his show ('Siegfried & Roy', I think) that he'd raised since it was a cub...for years, a highlight of the show was this trainer putting his head in the tiger's mouth...well, one day the tiger decided to bite his face & half his head off. Why? 'Cause that's what tigers are genetically predisposed to do, that's why. It was nothing odd or unusual in the slightest...what was odd or unusual was that the tiger didn't bite his face & half his head off the first time that a-hole put his head into the tiger's mouth.
Sorry, but these people get exactly what they deserve in the long run...I'm waiting for my next 'laugh-my-balls-off' thing like this - when that Steve Irwin (or whatever the hell his name is) ends up as a pile of crocodile crap.
