I was expecting 3 old geezers barely managing to keep it together, ruining the songs, having a break every 10 minutes and then finishing at 9 because they had to go to bed but I am pleased, nay, ecstatic, to say that was as far from being the case as can be reasonably expected. There was so much raw energy in the performance, Bruce has hardly lost a step, Baker was actually better and Clapton was playing like he gave a toss for once and the best he's done perhaps even since Cream last took to the stage at the RAH. Far from being the wholesale massacre of their reputation that I expected, this is turning out to be a glorious coda to the Cream legend.....I just really hope they're not tempted to ruin it with Stones-esque gargantuan stadium tours or, even worse, an album.nondisclosed_email@example.com (RitchiesHair)Wed, 04 May 2005 15:11:34 +0000 Re: Cream of the Crophttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p90474,from=rss#post90474https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p90474,from=rss#post90474Man's drinking with his friends, and it was "after hours". But you were in the same situation both curious what the gig will be like and you´d just came over and asked something like:"Enjoy the gig?" it could have worked. But I understand your doubts, I don´t think I could have resisted a try, though.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Milan Fahrnholz)Wed, 04 May 2005 14:51:50 +0000 Re: Cream of the Crophttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p90472,from=rss#post90472https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p90472,from=rss#post90472"Hey Gary! Nice and tight. They stretched out a couple of times when EC was in the mood, and then he really ripped it up. He was all over the fretboard and bending those notes like crazy. Best songs were Born under a Bad Sign and White Room, for me. We also got the Toad drum solo - very impressive. The bass was a bit muddy, and the vocals were blurred in the mix, but it was still excellent overall. Saw Gary Moore in the bar and wondered what he thought about seeing a blues maestro at work. Mike Rutherford was a few seats down and I bet there were loads for others from the rock aristocracy in attendance.nondisclosed_email@example.com (scarabus)Wed, 04 May 2005 14:43:16 +0000 Re: Cream of the Crophttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p90469,from=rss#post90469https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p90469,from=rss#post90469quote:scarabus wrote: Saw Cream last night. Awesome. Stripped down, raw, unapologetic blues rock, played superbly well. Man, the RAH has seen some good gigs over the years. But why does the Cream PR machine work so well compared to what Purple might do if they did a reunion? Cream was a nostalgia trip, sure, but it remained valid, worthy and "fresh". If Purple did a "one in, all in" event at the same venue, bet your life a million gallons of piss would be taken, without any justification. It's just a shame to see three (admittedly excellent) guys doing so well when guys I know who are even better wouldn't get half the cake. Were they psychedelic at all? Or was it straight-ahead blues-rock? Did Clapton play with any fire?nondisclosed_email@example.com (Rahul)Wed, 04 May 2005 14:34:30 +0000 Re: Cream of the Crophttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p90468,from=rss#post90468https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p90468,from=rss#post90468Had Purple broken up after the release of Made In Japan and never reformed until now, it might possible be similiar.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Milan Fahrnholz)Wed, 04 May 2005 14:20:58 +0000 Cream of the Crophttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p90467,from=rss#post90467https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p90467,from=rss#post90467Saw Cream last night.
