Yup, just like Hitler himself.
Hitler a deserter? Explain, please.
He spend very little time in the army during world war I as he hurt himself in the foot.

First, let me state for the record that I would be among the last people on the planet Earth to defend almost anything regarding a man that I consider to be one of the worst examples of a human ever to walk the Earth and poison it with his presence. In my opinion, Adolph Hitler = ScumRatShitBag.
But that's the first time I've heard an allegation that Hitler intentionally wounded himself during WWI. Almost every reference piece I've ever seen has failed to mention such an incident. These are - by and large - impersonal, dry, factual impersonal accounts of the man. Off the top o' my head, I seem to remember he was decorated a couple of times with Iron Crosses, despite never rising above the rank of Corporal (promotion was virtually impossible for him, as he wasn't a German - per se)...I think he was wounded by artillary at one point, and when the end of WWI came about in November of 1918 he was in a hospital suffering from the effects of a dose of poison gas...if memory serves, Hitler served for approximately 2 - 3 years in the infantry, seeing duty primarily as a "runner" or company messenger...but, with this new info, perhaps some more recent research is in order for myself regarding Herr Hitler.

Of course, and every occasion should be used to remind people of that.

Re: Hey Joe
This is a good thread, folks!
Love the picture, Sandbagger.
Also Thanks Milan for your very perceptive comments. I mean it; you ought to be made our resident religious affairs correspondent. This is a very serious subject that is going to have ramifications for millions of people, both within and outside the Catholic Church.
Also the accompanying lyrics in your signature block have not gone unnoticed in this quarter!
Let’s just take a few minutes to remember: The Holy Office of the Inquisition was renamed as The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. Ratzinger was the Prefect of the CDF from 1981.
Get that! 24 years as the Grand Inquisitor. This guy is no pussy cat. The smiles and open arms cannot hide the fact he is the type of person who used to condemn people to a nasty hot death in the middle of a bonfire for heresy.
I feel we are witnessing with JPII, and now BXVI, the completion of the backlash against the Second Vatican Council, which was started by Pope John XXIII. In a way, JXXIII was too much, too soon. He was the original right-on Sixties dude. Don’t’ forget he died in 1963, before they’d really got going.
Give it another couple of decades and he will shine out from the encircling gloom as the beacon of light he was. Bless Him!
My big concern is Ratzinger’s appointment will only add further support to the all round conservative cum fundamentalist entrenchment that is going on around the world. The Anglican Communion - and once upon a time you could not get more mild mannered than a bunch of Bishops of the former British Empire sipping their tea - has Bishops who are so anti-gay, I feel they would actively sanction the murder of homosexuals if they could.
In the end, I suppose my feelings are driven by simple biology. I am female. I have had the privilege of freedom of speech, a university education, equal rights, pay, control over my sexuality, access to contraception etc etc Today, I am in a reflective mood, so I am not going to start!
[Loud sighs of relief all round………………………….]
I feel we’ve witnessed another one of history’s Bifurcation Points.
Please, No more bonfires.
Ever.
POS
I have a very simple answer. We need to get to the heart of the sexual hypocrisy [driven by driven by institutionalized woman-hating] by making sure every member of the priestly hierarchy gets a jolly good shag, and soon………….
I feel so strongly about the matter that I would make myself available for block bookings, as a service to the whole of humankind.
Note to self:
POS, my dear, dear girl.
Did you REALLY mean that last statement?
Or is your enthusiasm carrying you away, as usual?

Ed, I remember reading something very similar to your information. My recollection is that he was temporarily blinded by poison gas, was recovering in a hospital when Germany surrendered, and got pretty pissed off on the news of the surrender, which prompted his idealogy.
Milan, I don't think Hitler was a deserter really. A fanatic, a racist, a nutcase, a sadist, but not a deserter
