This is a topic inspired by the continual negative slant to the discussions on this forum. Just once I’d like to see a topic where we say only nice or positive things. In this case it’s about their debut album. For example…

The opening track, “And The Address” is a great instrumental. A stunning start to their debut album, and illustrious career.

That’s how you play. Only nice things. If you choose to play dirty, we will simply ignore any negative comments.

That, my friend, is an excellent idea!

My first comment about "Shades" is that I think that the band name "Deep Purple" is one of the best band name ever: it's full of meaning (Purple is a meaningful colour: power, might, etc.), of prestige, of charism and of mystery. I picked up my first DP LP because of the name (Deep Purple - The Telsat Compilation), the second because of the artwork (In Rock). So, my first comment (they are all nice) would be about the name of the band...! (I know it comes from the song).

 The start of it all and a cornerstone of Deep Purple's studio catalogue...an absolutely wonderful debut album that - unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond it's control - seems to have been nearly forgotten (or never even really disovered/explored) by the rock world and by a lot of people who became DP fans/followers during & after the initial MkII era (1969-1973).
 Favorite track(s):

 Help
 Hey Joe
 Mandrake Root
 And The Address
 Hush

I love And The Address. Great opener. Lots of Jon on all the first albums.

And the Adress is still the BEST opener on Purple´s records....

And The Address: Good up-tempo way to open the bands career.

Mandrake Root: My favourite MkI track and the band obviously liked it because in one shape or another it featured in their set right up to the Bolin era.

The keyboard solo on 'Hush'... I can hear that every day. No, five times a day! It's absolutely amazing.
