Scandinavian Nights - Gillan doing the security job
I'm still astonished while viewing the Scandinavian Nights video to see IG doing the security job and yelling at a kid in the middle of the song. I try to picture Mick Jagger stopping the show just because a guy has thrown down a can or is shouting too loud. Any clue about what happened in the audience in Copenhagen on March 1, 1972?

Re: Scandinavian Nights - Gillan doing the security job
I haven't seen that video in years, but I distinctly remember that IG is hitting on one of the security guards, not anyone from the audience. Apparently, the guy was being rude towards the kids in the audience, and that p*ssed IG off.

Re: Scandinavian Nights - Gillan doing the security job
One thing that will always stick in my mimd is a concert at Glasgow...
The bouncers were a bit too heavy handed generally and they even prevented people in the front row from even standing up and made them sit in their seats.
At the end of the gig, there were a few who went up to the band and shook hands with the band or tried to.
There was this guy in particular - he gave Ian Gillan a shout and Ian moved forward and held his hand out to shake the outstretched hand of the guy in the audience - just a nano-second before 'impact' and the two hands met, a bouncer rugby tackled this fan to the ground. Big Ian couldn't believe it and he slowly collapsed to the ground to his knees with outstretched arms and pained expression on his face - he felt for the guy and he clearly absolutely hated the bouncer with a look of "You f***ing idiot - what did you have to do that for - you b***ard" - or at least that's how it seemed.
That will always remain with me - Ian Gillan is a true gentleman as far as I'm concerned.

You must of been right next to me. Maybe you bought my dads spare ticket I remember this well. Gillan was mad with the security!

Re: Scandinavian Nights - Gillan doing the security job
What? Did they bring the same Hell's Angels dudes that worked the Altamont concert in California in 1969, and send them over to work Coppenhagen in 1972.
I don't think there was worse security than that Rolling Stones show at Altamont, but that's another story for another thread.

There were 5 of us and we were in the second row, pretty much right in front of Mr Gillan or maybe very fractionally to the right of IG as you look at the stage, so between IG and Mr Morse, but closer to IG - if that gives you proximity.

Re: Scandinavian Nights - Gillan doing the security job
Gillan helped some punters at DP last concert in Sydney. They wanted to move forward and security wouldn't let them. Gillan hopped off the stage and security backed off. This tour they won't be playing at the same venue!!
