I can imagine DP fans looking at bingolotto because Purple is there but can't imagine Bingolottofans as rock music fans buying Purples album.

Bingolotto is one of the most watched programs on Swedish television. It's a cosy family-type of program. People on their 30s and 40s, with families, kids, etc., certainly watch it.

The program often has "hot" pop idols appearing -- artists that you'd normally only see on MTV. A good agent makes sure that their artists can appear on programs like Bingolotto -- not in order to achieve great artistic heights, but for the marketing and media exposure.

Erm, I thought I've seen snippets of that show here and there. May be it has changed completely the last years? emoticon emoticon

I would say that most of the ladys that where interviewed on the show were more like Light Purple. I mean their hair.

Metalica is doing videos from a prison. Maybe DP should do one from a retirement home.

And actually, IG seems to be pretty able at doing the bingo thing. Who would have thought so.

By the way, who is managing the managers?

I agree the SOTW playback performance in Germany was very unrealistic. they could and should have done better. probably they didn't see the point. it was too obvious anyway that it was playback. playing live on a small stage in the middle of a big pool (!) would have been suicidal...
I don't think many people were pissed off by the poor playback performance. I mean, those people who might get interested/ might buy the album after the show weren't pissed off. in other words people who aren't a bunch of dedicated followers like us emoticon
(I first typed "foollowers". Freud was right...)

still, I think playing a new song live is a much better/more honest way of promoting the new album.

Why would that promote DP? If you are not a "hardcore" fan, you'd think it's just 1 more compilation, why bother buying it? Unless ofcourse, you do't already have SOTW with Blackmore and Lord.

It's the only way to promote a new album. But I guess, the Jack Daniel, Ganja and fumes from the paint all has had their influence, on this supposedly rock act.

I'm not disputing the fact that watching DP do a playback act is next to worthless for most people, especially devoted fans.

However, the media exposure they get from an appearance like that beats anything they have achieved in this country (Sweden) since their House of Blue Light tour.

Sure, a great way to hit your target group! And then followed up by a direct mail to the members of the Swedish Bingo Appreciation Society.

This is how things is done. TV apperances are usually playback, but the thing is that most people don't even know that it is, it doesn't matter how obvious it is people in general still don't get it!

I don't really see what people are complaining about. Maybe they had expected an exclusive live performance to add to their bootleg collection or simply they belong to the group of people who don't know how things are done when bands are playing on TV.

It wasn't bad at all, and I rather have Purple on Bingolotto than on an obscure show that nobody watches.
