A letter to Rolling Stone?
When I'm looking through Rolling Stone magazine, I wonder if they are simply afraid of DP. What is there NOT to write about. Here's a group with a rich history and a current state of affairs to write about. I'm considering sending off a letter to the editor. Something like...
Why does Rolling Stone continue to ignore Deep Purple, a band that is not only legendary but are currently on a roll as well. No reviewing their albums or DVD's. Why? How about interviewing the "voice of Jesus" Ian Gillan for example.
If someone wants to run with this or improve on it. Go ahead. Maybe we can all refine a letter and send it off to the email address below:

Re: A letter to Rolling Stone?
This will do zero good,as the editor and chief is the owner of the R&R HOF,and has said his peace about Purples place in the rock community...
He's also made it clear that he doesn't have control over what the people making up the markets do when it comes to his mag and who is featured in it...bla bla bla...excuses is all you will get from this jerk!

Re: A letter to Rolling Stone?
"...there are many bands worthy of fame..." "...we get hundred of letters everyday..." etc. ect.
Deep Purple is just one of those bands, you know. Just one of those bands. Two on every corner and three in each pair.
Besides they were always difficult guys. Didn't wanna make hit singels, and didn't wanna make videos. And constantly complaining about "too much touring". That makes bad examples, one must consider. All these guys care about is making good albums and pulling off good shows. Who needs that??? /

Re: A letter to Rolling Stone?
That's always been in the back of my mind.
Don't let the Deep Purple "beast" get it's foot in the door. Once music consumers learn about Deep Purple, they'll reconsider the crap they've been told to like.
I always thought DP would make a great BEHIND THE MUSIC, but decided to go with alot of bands/artists that lacked that soap opera history.

Re: A letter to Rolling Stone?
Agreed Ormandy...but the story would take 4 hours minimum in order to be a fair and worthy chronology.

Re: A letter to Rolling Stone?
The last time I looked at an issue of Rolling Stone it was 99 pages of non-music advertising and 2 pages of content (with one of those pages being the index).
It is hands down the worst R&R mag on the planet.

Re: A letter to Rolling Stone?
Agreed there...every DP review I've ever read has been negative anyway...
Of course RS is he magazine that pushed Sonic Youth as the great American band....can't take a magazine like that seriously...
It would be nice if some of the new stuff got some exposure...of course that means playing the stuff live...a big push in advertising and promoting...yadayadayadayada....it's probably not going to happen but I can still enjoy ROTD with the rest of the cult that is DP fans in America....

Re: A letter to Rolling Stone?
As critical as I have been over some of Purple's output, compared to the twaddle that the Stone regularly champions,Purple's worst tunes are miles ahead of any of it.

Re: A letter to Rolling Stone?
If anyone recalls, I already tried a letter to the R&R HOF, and shared with this forum the results of what the woman on the receiving end of my email sent back to me.
I think it's probably somewhere on the archives here....suffice it to say, I didn't get too far. She dropped the line of [and I paraphrase] "...thank you for your suggestions....as you know many bands are worthy for induction, like the suggestion you made....we'll keep it in consideration...", etc, etc.
I have always wondered exactly what it is that Jan Wenner can't stand about Deep Purple. Maybe if Gillan's Micstand has some insight, he could share.
I have my guesses as to what it is, but mine are only speculation, and I'd hate to spread inaccurate rumors here, so best I let the experts on the subject do the talking.
