Re: Gillan Rapper?????
I think music evolves in a direction where classic hard rock and following categories on the one hand interact more and more with rap and techno on the other hand, whether one likes it or not. But when comes to Gillan, on Fireball he's more or less rapping on both Anyone's Daughter and No One Came. Nothing new in that respect, I think.
(and, no offence, but would you please turn off your 'caps lock'? Thanks)

It also seems to be his way of getting around/avoiding actually singing and catharghing/coughing/struggling his way thru a tune rather than having to come up with a melody to suit the song. Just like with rap, it's a way of just venting/yapping, yammering on incessantly with no thought to it's musical merit. It's basically a cop-out and just a bunch of random thoughts strung together.

Re: Gillan Rapper?????
My guess is that this is the list of songs with "rap like singing" elements with MK Morse. Am I missing any?
Ted the Mechanic
Hey Cisco
Any Ful Kno That
Watching the Sky
Money Talks
MTV
I can see how some fans have a problem with it as it is a departure from classic DP (as noted above, No One Came and a couple of other exceptions). Personally, I am a fan of all the songs listed above.

Re: Gillan Rapper?????
In his defence i think you should also remember that he is a singer - a singer who looks to other singers for inspiration and new ideas. Robbie Williams is VERY big on the walk&talk singing (as is Dave Lee Roth) and Robbie Williams is the biggest solo singer at the moment - and this has not passed Gillen unnoticed - and we have year 2005 and not 1975. Then sure, why should Gillan not do this - it is like tapping like Eddie van Halen on a guitar - why should a guitarist not do it unless he deliberately wants to avoid it?

So Ian Gillan is inspired by Robbie Williams?
