To be honest, the moment I bought TBRO in 1993, in the garbage can went S&M.
A neighbour of mine (he was brought up on In Rock which he bought within days of its first release) - he did the very same with Stormbringer, he just didn't see it as Purple at all and in the bin it went - in a number of pieces so he told me - one helluva excuse for not being able to oblige/lend an album if ever there was one!

1 Yes!
2 Of course!
3 No, why? On the opposite, I think S&M shows another sode of Deep Purple - on possible with Blackmore, Lord, Glover and Paice, but not with Ian Gillan. I find that interesting - and I like the album too. If not innovative, typical DP, an all time high - I like it anyway. Another purple colour, and I like them all!

I can see I'm gonna have to give S & M another listen

Re: Do you consider Mark V as Purple???
Not really. Satriani has never been part of dP, but more a temporary replacement.
This said, his job with dP was amazing and I'd love that someone would officialy release a live album.
I think that a proper mark should be considered only when a proper release (live or studio) has been made.
No offence to Satriani.

I think you refer to mkVI. MkV was Blackmore - Lord - Glover - Paice - Turner

Re: Do you consider Mark V as Purple???
I'm pretty much with those who've made the "4/5 th's" argument here. It's the quality of S&M (certainly not all JLT's fault) as an album, & Mk 5's poor live performances (mostly JLT's fault), that really count against Mk 5. If s&m HAD BEEN A BETTER ALBUM, & Mk 5, performed better live, we wouldn't even be having this debate.

Yeah, MKV is Deep Purple.

Re: Do you consider Mark V as Purple???
It's DP, that's the name they went by and the band contained 4/5 of Mk2 and 3 original members.
It's also quite a Rainbow album at the same time. Blackmore, Glover and Turner are the principal writers and that was exactly the same as JLT era Rainbow.

Re: Do you consider Mark V as Purple???
Q: Do you consider Mark V worthy to carry the name Deep Purple???
A: Maybe not at 100% worthiness, but that's just my view, which is highly subjective. From as close to a 100% objective view as I can get - of course they were.
Q: Do you think SLAVES AND MASTERS should be included in Purple discography???
A: Yes
Q: Do you think Mark V should be erased in Purple history???
A: No

Ooooops! My mistake!
Then yes, and according to what I said about the studio recording , I consider Mark V a dP incarnation.
