Re: Who here has yet to hear ROTD?

Ahem... let's not start going after people who are not interested in hearing it. Not why I started this thread!

I am just curious if anyone has heard it lately (Ed apparently has), what their thinking was, or if they have interest in listening to it at some point. Frankly, I am not expecting glowing reviews, but still would like to hear them.

so Ed, would love a song-by-song review from you. Come on, spare a couple of minutes emoticon

Well I like two out of four (Purpendicular & Bananas) so I'm ahead of you there emoticon As for ROTD well I've made my honest feelings about it known here and got slated for daring to criticise, hence my sig below.

Purple don't really do it for me either anymore I'm afraid which is a painful thing to have to admit after 30+ years. I'll still go and see them at MoR though but not out of any affection for the current line-up or album.

And another thing I won't discuss is RRRRRRRRRapture...

I Still love ROTD...but I hope we've gotten to a point were Morsified Zombies and Blackmorons can live together in peace an harmony. There are alblums from the line ups that I think suck...Abandon, TBRO, SM, Stormbringer....and I don't care for most of the Mark 1 material. others will disagree...

I don't think you have to like everything the band has put out over almost 40 years to post here...

Having said that I find ROTD to be more like Mrk 2 Purple than any of the Morse era records. Airey does a great job of bringing back the fat Hammond sound, and I think the whole band plays with a lot of energy on some pretty diverse tracks...but that's just one man's opinion.

I have actually heard a few tracks off ROTD, but they all sounded pretty uninteresting. The Purple situation really annoys me to be honest. I always feel that getting back together was a bad idea. Why? Coz now they've released more bad/average/poor albums than good.

...and why are you hanging around a Deep Purple "fan" forum?

Because this fan forum has always been for fans of any Purple line-up, not necessarily the current one. If there were rules about having to like the current Purple, then a forum circa 1990-1992 would have been very empty, wouldn't it? emoticon

Exactly!!! You nail it on the wall, even fans of other bands can post here, what more a Purple fan.

Look guys we have to be realistic, the magic on stage is gone, maybe coz of age and the guitarist.

Purple have to be "very very very" good in the studio, they have to produce a classic studio album next, the one that will turn everything around. They have to do it past, coz if they wait three years people will lose interest and they have to try a new producer I think. That's my opinion.

The guitar solos are mostly the same, sounds like it's been cut and paste on many songs and most of all it "DO NOT HAVE" the metallic edge.

I'm sorry, just trying to be honest guys, sorry, forgive me.

Re: Who here has yet to hear ROTD?

I got ROTD a few weeks ago. I didn't buy Abandon or Bananas probably because, having liked it a lot initially, I got bored with Purpendicular. However, a lot of good things were said on this board about ROTD so I thought I'd give it a go. The first couple of times I heard it I was dissappointed, not with the album itself, but because it doesn't feel like a Deep Purple album to me. Once I stopped thinking of it as a Deep Purple album and just listened to it for its own sake it started to grow on me. I still don't think it sounds like Deep Purple, but it has a regular place on the CD player and I don't regret spending the money.

Yeah, I guess so, even if my opinion is based on dvds rather than being at the shows (because the magic seems to have gone). It's very professional nowdays, more so than in the MK2 days, so you'll know what you'll get. Money back guarantee sort of thing. Except for Gillan: he continues to bring an edge to the things, which is nice.

I agree with that too. I hope that when they go out, they go out on a high. I think they should do one more album, a great one please and then call it a day.
