Since the reunion it sounds as if he's only playing with one hand. In fact there have been reviews from the Blackmore Tribute Tour (Machine Head in it's entirety)where he played a snare drum roll one handed and I totally believe it due to the fact that most of his playiong has been half assed lately anyway.
Do you know how much dexterity it takes to do a single hand snare roll???????

Re: Paicy - only one lung?
Bernie Torme said in an interview, that Ian Paice has only one lung.
http://dmme.net/interviews/torme.html
"Q: In GILLAN you auditioned Ian Paice to be the drummer. Did he really need to be auditioned by the man who knew him quite well? Why he didn't get the job - he wasn't good enough?
A: He definitely was good enough! He had not been playing for about a year, and felt he was out of practice. He came and auditioned, and was totally brilliant, though he had some difficulty after playing "Secret of the Dance" due to his only having one lung, and being a bit out of practice. He played it brilliantly but he had to lie down on the floor for five minutes afterwards. He did not want to join because of our fast tracks, he said he no longer wanted to play stuff like that. I think the fact that he had been offered to join WHITESNAKE with his old friend Jon Lord made a big difference."

Re: Paicy - only one lung?
Thank you snakehead (if you really want to be called that).
That is what I remember having read.
And then I saw the scar recently.
Amazing if it is true?
Maybe that is why he developed that unbeleivable technique.
Respect!
Kasper

Re: Paicy - only one lung?
I don't think that it was one lung. I think Paice has got just one penis! How is it possible to play the drums that way with just one penis???

Re: Paicy - only one lung?
I recall reading the same thing - thanks for posting the quote.
I saw the scar on another video too and asked if anyone could:
1. Confirm it was ture.
2. Explain how that happened. Was he born that way? Or did he have someillness or accident?
Any info?
Joe

Re: Paicy - only one lung?
First time I've heard of any of this.
What a cross some people have to bear, yet they manage to forge ahead quite admirably.
I believe there's a tendency to mistakenly think that because the various members of Deep Purple are fairly "well-to-do" (financially), and have been successful, and traveled the world, that they have the world by the tail and nothing can touch them.
However, even they have their sacrifices and shortcomings. The measure of success is not how well you avoid adversity, but rather how well you overcome it, when it faces you head on.
I believe this Ian Paice factoid...though he himself has probably never wanted to make a big deal out of it (and maybe we shouldn't either), just further proves what a dedicated musician he is.

Re: Paicy - only one lung?
About 15 years ago I heard that Paicey actually, by accident, stuck a drumstick in his eye and went blind on that eye...
Don't know if there's any truth in that story.
Then again, inbetween song bladder from early days talks about a man with one testicle...
Seems like a purple serial this talk about men with one organ...
