Re: Christopher Cross In Purple??

Maybe the following scenario is possible (and nearly impossible to check). In 1971 Purple wasn't the headliner but only supprt for the Faces. This means that they finished their set rather early. Possibly some members of the band used the time to do a jam with some local musicians (Geppert) in a local club...

It was August 1970. It'll be in the book.

Cool! It DID happen?!?!? I can stop searching?? Thanks, Nogel!
If Nigel Young vouches for the incident actually happening, I hereby respectfully retract and apologize for any and all statements made of a doubtful nature regarding this bit of DP history. emoticon

MrEd: MkII didn't have thier first U.S. dates 'til July of 1971 emoticon

I just realized after reading that (your post, Nigel), and a couple of minutes of thought, that I'd totally overlooked the brief "Concerto" tour... emoticon ...so I'd be remiss in not pointing out that piece of incorrect information I posted earlier in the thread... emoticon / emoticon

Thank you for giving us an answer before my scenario makes the round as a new rumour ;-)

So, we can take that as a sort of 'preview', then Nogel? emoticon
I just wanted to also say that when I first read this post of yours, for a half a second I thought it said "August 1980"...and we all probably know what "Deep Purple" THAT must've been! emoticon

Hey, who knows, SnakeHead? Given the understandable (buy the book for details!) dearth of detail in Nogel's emoticon answer, your scenario just may be 100% accurate. We'll see sometime this year when "Deep[ Purple - Day By Night" is published. emoticon

Re: Christopher Cross In Purple??

...all of which reminds me - wasn't there a circumstance during one of Deep Purple's very first British television appearances when for whatever reason(s) Blackmore didn't show up and one of the roadies (Mick Angus?) stood in on an unplugged guitar (it was a lipsynch/mime thing).
That ring any bells for anyone?
