When you write something like this, it's not easy to realize that what you 'really' meant was something else, but rather something a million miles away from it. emoticon

I don't see it as a harsh statement, neither was my respons meant to be.

I think it is pretty far out to claim that mk 3 and 4 was 0 % real Deep Purple, and mk 1 wasn't even worth to count (to zero value, as it would have been - or do you think mk 1 ruined the Deep Purple story, like everything would have been better if not for mk 1???)
Sounds far from a 'real' Deep Purple fan in my ears. But I'm not sure what a 'real' fan is, or isn't.

Subjective I guess, I would put it down as to when you came in.... when the music of a particular group caught your attention... For us REAL fans it was the early '70's for others it may be 1995. To carry it further is MK2 purple really Deep Purple. Since there is a change in personnel, technically, is it really Deep Purple?

a) You omitted to notice (again) my response at the top of page 2 of this thread which states: "The jibe at the end is merely a lighthearted poke and not a serious claim at all"

b) I'll thank you not to insult me again. You may say that you haven't, but for a true DP fan for about 33 years it certainly is.

Without Mk2 there would have been no Mk3
Without M1 there would still have been the "taking the world by storm" which Mk2 did.

There seems an abscence of Mk2 fans on here - more's the pity - so we get plagued by the peripheral stuff.

I say again - what is the photgraph at the top of the page?

And secondly, ask Ian Gillan what he thinks of Burn? - nuff said.

Hardly what I said.

Be good if you didn't choose to twist everything I'm saying.

Maybe to me you don't count. I must remember to twist everything you say in future.

On the CTTB thing - IG has been quoted a number of times as not recognising at all the Coverdale line-up as being DP.

Still here, hardrock fan, guitarplayer
who considers anything beyond mark 3
as a waste of time. I simply don't dig
polished elevator rock.

Purple died in 75, rest is history.

Who cares, whatever floats yer boat.

No worries.. Lots of MK2 die hards in
here me thinks, albeit in lurker mode.

Hi MH_1.

The only quotes I can remember from Gillan are that he hadn't heard Burn or Stormbringer, but had caught some tracks from CTTB and "was stunned by the funk thing". This was a long time ago (in the first edition of the Chris Charlesworth book I think).

Do you have any sources for your quotes?

Hi John,

Firstly, no. I remember though reading in a DTB interview with IG that he didn't want to talk at all about Mk3 etc and his line was very much "next question" (!!!)
His tak was very much a case of not recognising the Mk3 line-up.

Secondly, I've just about reached the rapid chill-out stage that I alluded to in a pm. As I say, I reach a point where I almost don't care and its all a joke and I've pretty much reached that point!!! Its a bit difficult when you've been into something for 33 years!!!!

Leading on from the last point, at finishing time yesterday my boss summoned me to his office and handed me a shiny new laptop. Its a different world mate - this thing does everything except dance and sing for me - although there's probably a button on here that I haven't found yet that does all of that. I'm on holiday today and I've got it working with my wireless router so I'm well chilled. Its an IBM ThinkPad - probably a heap of s**t but its light-years ahead of the 5 year old Dell I had been using for the last 3 years with them - yeah second hand when I got it and it was always seemingly long-in-the-tooth. So, dunno what I've done to deserve this shiny spankin new gizmo but its superb - even connects me to the work server automatcally... yeah there had to be a catch!!!

And anyhow, I'm listening to ROTD at full blast on my separates Hi-Fi system - the whole street must love it by now as they haven't complained yet...

...it is absolutely superb. And yes I thank my chosen God for delivering this masterpiece... this is heaven itself!!!!

I thank you!!!

Well if he hadn't heard Burn or Stormbringer then he may not have had anything to say. emoticon

Similarly Blackmore claims to have not heard any Morse-era Purple.

I find both stances hard to believe, personally.

Maybe you can't hear hoards of your neighbours battering on your door due to the volume levels!

Hmm. Wouldn't quite class it as a masterpiece, but it's a good solid effort.

Re: Where have all the Mk2 legions gone?

I know what you mean that maybe its just a solid effort.

Srangely, if you compare it head-to-head with the peak years (oops) In Rock, Fireball, MH (dunno what that is!!!) then it maybe isn't near really... BUT!!! ...as a whole it seems to gel and flow and the whole experience is for me very very satisfying.

Its seems a classic case of the whole being greater than the sum of the parts.

And personal thanks to Scotsnake - ROTD - I very much thank you!!!!!!!! emoticon

Favour back time will happen some day soon - if you get a list of wants to me...

...personally, at the top of my list of wants - I'd like a tall leggy blonde and 2 tickets to the Carribean - as I say to question at work "Would you like anything from the shop?"

Back on subject - I suppose I'm just a Gillan-ite and it took me a long time to realise - via DP and then Rainbow (RJD) and its taken all this time...

...hence my regret on the current members board about not having really got fully into IGB in previous years - maybe why I appreciate DP all the more with IG at the helm now. With Gillan and Glover at the helm its also very Mk2 based for me and I just soak it all up.

Perish the thought that one day we will all be old and grey and no current band at all emoticon

Maybe we should jus appreciate the whole thing in all its diversity and glory whatever the Mark (2, 3, 4 or whatever)

Cheers,

Alan
