84/85 Concerts. Video or Film? That is the question.

I have what maybe a silly question.

I have big interest in film in general and I have always favored film over video being an “old school” kind of person liking its gritty/grainy look.

From what I know all 3 of the Sydney shows Purple played in 1984 were filmed. This can be verified by viewing bootleg videos of the shows that have been circulating. On the New Live and Rare DVD the Black Night clip (from one of those shows) is obviously shot on video. It is easy to tell due to the “streaking” of any lighting. But the clips used in the Knocking at Your Back Door promo look like they were shot on film. I make this deduction due to the “lens flare” during the shots. And I am assuming that that footage was from one of the Sydney shows.

Does anyone here have any more knowledge of the filming of those shows and could they have alternated both formats?

Well I now know that all three Sydney '84 shows were shot on video. So now I can't figure out where the "filmed" footage in the KAYBD video comes from.

No more than anyone else unfortunately. Just the Black Night clip and Paice's drum solo.

Every time I get a chance to speak with Bruce Payne I bug him about getting this stuff out. Most of the time it sounds promising. So I wonder what the holdup is?

You would think, here it is 2005, and mabye, just mabye... all these shows shot in the past would be availible.
Certainly would be cool seeing George Harrison playing 'Lucille' with Ritchie and the band, no?

No, I guess not emoticon

Of course, remembering who the management was/is emoticon
