MK-Whatever?
For some reason, after seeing the Post Topic of MK-8 I started wondering if all of this MK-crap is really necessary anymore. I think it's just gotten way out of control and when people start talking about MK-2a & MK-5 and 6 I start to lose track of who's in what. It also looks pretty silly to me when talking about MK-what are we up to now? 8 is it? Cut me a break. It worked well and I think the lineups were originally separated by Mach #'s and it made sense that way, up until MK-III. Mach being a speed at which supersonic speeds are calculated. You all can still call it what you like and I'm sure will continue to as most of you have it indented in your skulls which is which and who is who. But I will continue to call the different eras MKI, MKII, MKII,MKIV and then separate the Blackmore years from the Morse years just by simply labeling them MK-Blackmore and MK-Smiley.
Why isn't there a MK for the Randy California show, or the one where Gillan called in sick and Glover sang? See how silly it gets when you place a MK on a few shows that Satch did. I think that's where my confusion starts. How did we get to freakin MK8 anyway? And MK 2a,2b,2c.We can also just separate the MKII 70's band from a,b and c and call it MKII and then MK-Gillan-can't-sing-anymore.

Re: MK-Whatever?
What's wrong with using a Mark dude???
What's the big deal dude???
So many musicians involved, need to avoid confusion, that's why.
Using a Mark is no big deal dude. It's not even worth it to make you a little angry.
By the way my prediction Purple will reach Mark 12.

Re: MK-Whatever?
At best, the MK identifications are an easy way to refer to an era of the band without having to name each member.
At worst, it is a lousy testament to the Purple story. A band that was created by business, functioned foremost as a business, and plugged components in and out to try to maximize the business potential.
It is partly the fault of management, and partly Blackmore's fault who throughout his career looked at everyone else as pluggable components for trying to get him the best popularity. A waste, considering the guy's skills and musical genius. If only he kept using it for musical qualities. He just went too far with the firing of Ronnie and hiring of JLT in Rainbow (the Bonnet experience had potential).
Why criticize Blackmore on this thread?
1) The other 'Blackmore above criticism; thread triggered this in a more appropriate context
2) It is a waste of time to criticize someone without talent. Criticism is wararnted to flawed heroes, like Blacky.
3) Get Brian worked up a bit. It's always fun.

Re: MK-Whatever?
MK-Gillan-can't-sing-anymore
Well now I´m really confused!
If Gillan can´t sing anymore, who is it then singing for DP? Someone looking very much like a copy of a 60 year old Ian Gillan. Sounding like him.
Is it an alien?
This really scares me!
Can someone please explain this!

a) You're right.
b) Blacky? Lawless?

Re: MK-Whatever?
Confusing Mach (supersonic speed measure) and MK (short abbreviation for Mark) again. As far as I know the MK always stood for Mark. There would be no reason to use the speed version. I saw another guy on Classic Rock Revisited's board get it mixed up too.
