Re: Who loves Hallelujah?
For some reason, this wasn't included on the 25th anniversary IN ROCK as a bonus track! Oh, well. I love it.

Love it too!
Never heard the original, though!

Re: Who loves Hallelujah?
One of the most beautiful tunes Purple ever played. Also, one of those where Gillan is more powerful. Of course, I love it.

Re: Who loves Hallelujah?
I'm not sure this is the best song ever but it definitely reveals Gillan's voice and charism. I like it as a ultimate testimony of the Flower Power time. But generally, any song about God or religion makes me feel like I'm in a church, which, as far as I'm concerned, means I'm in hell...

Re: Who loves Hallelujah?
In view of the fact that I never went to a house of worship, Hallelujah doesn't make me feel religious, just happy.
The song reminds me a little of the JCS album.

Re: Who loves Hallelujah?
I don't see where this song is religious, really. It seems to be about young people coming of age and trying to make a difference. Religion isn't the only thing that can be preached.
I like this song. Gillan is at the top of his game. He uses his excellent false voice, decending in octaves towards the end. Kind of similar to 'Poor Jerusalem' from 'JCS', although a little harder edged. Blackmore's playing fits the mood just right.
I really wish that Gillan had taken better care of his voice after MKII so he could sing songs like this these days. This, and others like 'CIT' live from the 'Concerto', shows what he could do at his best. Great stuff.

Re: Who loves Hallelujah?
Thats what happens to a voice when you scream at the top of your ability for every song every second night for decades. What possessed him to do this?
I personally would of preferred the screams to be used a lot less.
