Re: Gillans hair
Image is nothing. Performance and quality is everything. Said FLIGHTOFTHERAT.
I agree with "Performance and quality is everything" but even he has long or short hair his voice is the same!So next thing to think about is image. With long hair he seems like a ROCK STAR man(as he is).You look at him and think "Oh man this is IAN GILLAN.40 years and still goes on" They are a hard rock band.I wish the ROTD photos will be those promo pics with gillan long haired! With long hair i think they can "sell" more in younger people, aren't they?Nowadays image is very important!Ok DP is an old band and they don't care about image but i think it would help them. The grey colour its ok,he is 60 years old...

Re: Gillans hair
This is really a weird discussion - so I think I'll join in. The hair debates turn up every once in a while, I suppose it's just inevitable with DP. First let me say, some of the comments made in this thread are a bit too much.
I was hoping Gillan had kept the long hair the way it is, nothing wrong with longhaired elderly men, now it's back to the politician-look. Just don't dye it black like 10 years ago (the mad banshee-look).
Besides, long hair and RnR go hand in hand, unless it's like Ritchie who gives his wig touches of grey. I think Jon and Roger grow older gracefully, no bullshit there.
Everyone knows you simply can't write good music with short hair, it's quite impossible.
All the rock classics were written in the 60s and 70s when long hair was the thing, look at today's rock scene - sounds and looks ridiculous.

Re: Gillans hair
I hope he shaves it all off, grows a goatee and wears a kilt, 6 inch platforms and Mr T gold chains. Then I might be able to take him seriously.
As long as he can still sing a decent ditty in a fairly tuneful way, then I dont give a stuff what his hair looks like.

Re: Gillans hair
I think discussions like this just show how much image does matter in rock. IG's a big boy now and he can make his own grooming decisions but I still reckon that shorter hair suits him better at this point in time and speaking strictly for myself, I don't have any problem with it as far as image goes.
Anyway, all these debates ruin people's enjoyment of the music so I say to remedy it all rock bands should be forced to wear grey jumpsuits and any member with hair that goes down further than their ears should be pulled off the stage and have it hacked off with a breadknife....in fact, apply that to all longhaired men, they look bloody ridiculous.

I take it you don´t like Roxy Music then?

You talk like someone who got a haircut recently, although I´d find that hard to believe if you told me that was the case.

What!!???
I can't imagine Lord without the ponytail anymore. He may have looked good with the hair out in the 70s but nowadays I prefer the ponytail. The grey colour of his hair just makes it cooler.

Re: Gillans hair
Strangely enough, I think the time has come where Jon (unlike Gillan) should cut it short. A shortish haircut might suit him now.
