Considering the apparent inevitability of the split and to attempt to carry on might've had more catastrophic results career-wise for everyone involved and that if we were all here at all we might be talking about a band that really did cease to exist over a decade ago, I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiments expressed in the statememnt made by DSR.

Personally I have to say I am pleased Ian Gillan has never spent any time servicing Ritchie Blackmore's needs. Now servicing the former Mrs Blackmore's needs may be a completely different story ..... allegedly .......

Nonsense, like "Candice is a very mediocre singer."
Sorry for turning your own words against you, but I do think it's nonsens to claim Candice Night is a "very mediocre singer".
Singing is much more that a powerful voice and high screams. In hard rock these things are indeed important, but Candice Night ain't no hard rock singer. Her music is not supposed to be shouted out as loud as possible, it's about sharing good vibes and a happy mood. It's about singing good melodies clean and fair, not an egosentric run for "the best singer in the world"-title.
Don't know if you belong in the "Morse smiles too much" camp or not, but hard rock aside; to fully appreciate the music of Blackmore's Night you'll have to consider the time and ideals this music is inspired from, and th erole music had in those days. Back in the very old days life was a bit harder than it is for many people today. Like the slaves found comfort in the blues, medieval music is supposed to make people smile away a challenging everyday life, every little once in a while. It's the musicians job to make the audience happy - you know like smiling and singing along, dress up in an unusual way and have a good time. No one's forced to like it, but within the context BN establishes, I think Candie Night is doing the job very well.
Comparing Candice Night to Ian Gillan is pure nonsense. It doesn't mean it can't be fun, though.

Re: Did Ian Gillan go on one of those fashion makeover shows?
Doh! More points for Candice and another +5 for being hot.
Candice can sing within the realms set forth by Blackmores Night while Gillan no longer can sing Highway Star,SOTW or CIT live, even though they still push the classics 90% of the time.
So
Round 8 to Candice and +5 bonus points for being hot
Candice 111 points
Gillan still at -50

I know BN plays no hard rock and I know Candy ain't a hardrock singer.
But when I listen to other female singers I think she is mediocre. Too much singing in the same way. Not many moments where here vocals shine. And I've heard her live and wasn't impressed.
When I listen the the Wilson sisters, on Dog And Butterfly for instance, that is something Candy will never equal. And I heard time live too and they sounded much better.
And to answer "Don't know if you belong in the "Morse smiles too much" camp" I'm a fan of Blackmore.
I only think that TMIB is repeating himself and the quality of most BN songs aren't up to his standards. With Rainbow he would never select a singer with the qualities (as a singer of course) of Candy.
And for DP I think they are better off with Blackmore and I still enjoy listening to them.

Well then lets take a detailed comparison between Candice and Gillan.
Ability to sing the song at hand on stage
Gillan-Child In Time recorded lyrics aaahhh aaaahhhhh aaaaaa- Actual Gillan lyrics as sung live “ Catharggghhhh putttoohey cough cough yeaheeow…”
Candice-Shadow of The Moon-Actual recorded lyrics-In the shadow of the moon- Actual lyrics as sung by Candice live-“In the shadow of the moon”
Round 1 goes to Candice
+ 5 bonus points cause she's HOT
Candice 6
Gillan nil
Stage presence-
Candice – Hot
Gillan – Not
Round two to Candice
+ 5 bonus points cause she's HOT
Candice 12
Gillan nil
Ability to sing from Ritchies past other than the lyricists own songs
Deep Purple songs other than MKII that Gillan sings..hhmmm…. none
DP MKII & III as well as Rainbow and several others that she didn’t write
Candice sings…several
Round three to Candice
+ 5 bonus points cause she's HOT
Candice 18
Gillan nil
Vocal range
At one time the edge went to Gillan
Today..a tie
No points given and Round 4 a tie
However..+ 5 bonus points cause she's HOT
Candice 23
Gillan nil
Amount of times sacked by the band
Gillan 1
Candice 0
Round 5 to Candice
+ 5 bonus points cause she's HOT
Candice 29
Gillan nil
Length of service with Blackmore
Gillan 9 years
Candice 9 years
Round 6 tie
No points given
However...+ 5 bonus points cause she's HOT
Candice 34
Gillan nil
Length of time servicing Blackmore
Gillan 0
Candice 16 years
Round 7 to Candice
+ 5 bonus points cause she's HOT
Candice 40
Gillan nil
Candice wins by visual knockout. 7 Rounds of 10 and Candice wins +5 bonus points for being hot gives her a total of 45 points. Bruce Pain throws in Gillans towel, which he’ll be fashioning into another stage outfit to replace the psycho pj’s.
Let me add stage presence to the mix
Gillan singing CIT = Face is red, distorted and his head blows up like a pumkin while his arms contort while trying to sing the tune
-50 points
Candice singing CIT = Looks beautiful, is very hot and sings in tune
+ 50 points and + 5 cause she's hot.
Final tally
Candice 100 points
+ 5 bonus points cause she's HOT = 105
and Gillan
-50
You sometimes make intellegent remarks about your opinions !! I always disagree with them, but sometimes they sound like they came from a reasonable person ... but this thing about Candice, i respct, but it sounds more like a Blackmoron/childish "Mine is better then yours" attitude !! But the hell with it

Agree ! But i wouldn´t say Candice is mediocre, she is a good singer, but a average one ! It´s unfair to compair her with different singers, but if compared with people like Lorenna McKennit, Candice is in a inferior stage ( purely subjective matter anyway )

Good, but average... sounds not too bad in my ears. I woulnd't like an average singer in Deep Purple, but in BN it works anyway, cos the music ain't about extreme musical qualities, like rock'n roll is.
On Blackmore's songwriting I would add that it has always been a bit up and down. Not every Rainbow song is up to Rainbow standard either. Some of the BN material however, is very good stuff, at least to my taste. Not all of it, but then again Blackmore has never been such a productive a songwriter like in the last decade. And his guitarplaying is very smooth and tasty, and offering unpredictable glimpses of those otherwise missed extreme musical qualities. In other words, Blackmore can still draw a man's attention away from Candice, for a while. Like Ritchie's Strat probably would like to add; "she's hot!" /

Glad to see my remarks were taken in the context given. When dealing with childish remarks like "Candice is a mediocre singer", I will reply with the same attitude as the one posted. Of course, as mentioned by someone else since my post, it's all subjective opinion and to me she works well within the context of BN, as Gillan once did with DP, and maybe with the new lp, he may be compatable again. But again, that will be subjective opinion. But when dealing with children, you need to have a bit of child psychology (Let' see a child spell that one).
