Re: what whitesnake albums should I buy??
1987 is a great album! Very powerfull. I would start with:
1. Slide It In
2. Ready And Willing
3. 1987
4. Northwinds/Snakebite
After that you can decide which of the era's you like best without letting the "negative" people make up your mind for you.

Re: what whitesnake albums should I buy??
Just distributing fair warning, and nothing negative about the turn for the worse,if you get off on that sort of thing because you weren't enjoying them when they didn't have it in their heads to bandwagon the American market at the time,so be it,still a fair warning of a turn for the worse, man what a difference it makes when a band goes from doing what they feel to doing what is expected of them by the record company and management.
David Coverdale has gone to press with his feelings about this many times, the
Glamoursnake years were not his idea, but success in America was calling and he would have been a fool not to soak it up,so he said.

Re: what whitesnake albums should I buy??
I don't "hear" a turn for the worse on 1987. Besides, if not for 1987 the Whitesnake back catalog probably would not have sold as well in the U.S.A. Financially a good deal for the label and Coverdale.
I don't get into the politics, I just listen as a fan, and what I hear is fabulous.
No need to turn off a potential fan by putting material down just because they had long hair and dressed the part for that decade. I'm sure you will fill in more reasons so have at you... come back here, I'll bite your legs off!
I know ya can't resist a response

... and this of course why he went out playing a set consisting almost entirely of 1987 tracks last year.

Yes most likely to do with more burachratic jive, and just normal anxiety to be working at all,I imagine, but certainly not because it's his best work, there is already M3 to cover that.(at his approval)
Are you short on recordings of their earlier work,or do you just not favor it to
F-O-R?

Re: what whitesnake albums should I buy??
He'll be touring this year too and 1987 will still be two thirds of his set, this decision has nothing to do about "anxiety" on David's part, trust me.

Re: what whitesnake albums should I buy??
I seem to remember reading his own words about how the promoters influence for the most part, what will sell tickets and that although it doesn't bother him too much,he would like to be a lot more in charge of the situation,in his words-
"I'm just glad to touring at all"
I'm sure being the class act that he is,after the five years of burachracy that is scheduled, he will be back in complete charge of his destiny, this is when things will get interesting for me.
As far as post '84 Whitesnake music goes,I don't think it's all bad,I just didn't like the way things went from a European to an
all American standpoint,it didn't effect the music as much as I have made out here,it just bugged the hell out of me,and I'm American.
I will now recommend for what it's worth
Slip Of The Tongue for several fantastic
blues based metal tracks,particularly
"Wings Of The Storm" and "Judgement Day",
the title track and even
"Fool For Your Loving" Steve Vai can't be denied,I just didn't like the way it was all
very market oriented.
WS 1987 has it's merits no doubt,if you like that sort of thing.
So Christos(and Snake fans alike)
I do acknowlege this period, one last thing,
having met David in 1984 and 1988,I'd say success changed him for the worst at that point,he has since turned his life around and I commend him for it.

Re: what whitesnake albums should I buy??
to me the only song from SOTT that really matters is Wings of Storm, the rest sucks big time IMO. Judment Day is too much Zeplish (much more than Still Of the Night) and this coverdale's "I wanna be Plant" syndrom really piss me off.

Re: what whitesnake albums should I buy??
Seems to me, if I want to start with one (1) Whitesnake album that should be "Ready and Willing". My intuition point at Northwinds, though.
Any suggestions, anyone?
