Another Compilation !!

Hot on the heels of Whitesnake - The Early Years comes a report from http://www.deep-purple.net/othernews/othernews.htm

Whitesnake / The Early Years (EMI 7243 592019 2 4) is out on Feb 24th 2004, a single CD, part of the EMI programme of early collections of many of their major catalogue artists. The 18 tracks span the years 1978 - 1984, and only four duplicate the recent anniversary sets. Coverdale chose the tracks and wrote the sleeve notes. There are no rarities on it, tracks included are: Walking In The Shadow Of Blues / Sweet Talker / Would I Lie To You / Trouble / Gambler / Love Hunter / Don't Break My Heart Again / Ready An' Willing / Child Of Babylon / Here I Go Again / Carry Your Load / Rough An' Ready / Wine Women An' Song / Lie Down / Ain't No Love In The Heart Of The City (Live) / Fool For Your Loving (Live) / Take Me With You (Live) / We Wish You Well.

David was asked on his message board by Paul Harrison about the absence of Crying In The Rain... "I purposely arranged the music on the two projects "Silver Anniversary" and "The Early Years" to be 'companion' CDs... I believe the only 'double' is "Don't Break My Heart Again"... All the rest are 'live' or 'studio' versions of the same songs...I hope that makes sense...and somebody asked me why I didn't put "Crying In The Rain" on either collection...well...as you can imagine...it was IMPOSSIBLE to put EVERYTHING on!!!...Tho' ,as usual, there was a little 'method to my madness...in that I will be talking to EMI about putting together "The Epics"...which will be ALL the power blues...the over 6 minutes songs!!!..."Mistreated"..."Crying.."..."Sailing Ships"..."Take Me Back Again"..."Still 'o' De Night"...you know...THE EPICS!!!"

David also mentioned that he's currently writing new material with Doug Aldrich although no new studio album is planned_ "tho' you never know!"
DB#9001313 , thanks to Paul Harrison

Dare I ask for any thoughts ??

Not much to say about the idea of releasing yet another compilation. emoticon I'd love to hear the results of the Coverdale/Aldrich partnership though, hell, I'll even settle for a live album from them this year! emoticon Have there been any tentative talks yet about when David will be hitting Europe again with a tour?

I read over at whitesnake.com about the possibility of European festival dates, with perhaps some more indoor dates in Europe after that, all of that is unconfirmed as yet.

I agree with you about the live CD, but how long is it going to take to be released. After all Gary Moore, who was second on the bill in the UK has already released a CD and DVD from those shows, yet nothing from Whitesnake.....strange.

Yeah, Gary's live Monsters Of Rock album (which sounds better than what I remember from his Newcastle gig btw!) came out in September and the DVD in October. Surely it shouldn't take so long to mix a live CD these days...

Probably due to not being signed to a record company is of no help to him, although with all these bloody compilations, who would have thought that was the case.

Actually I'm looking forward to this. We in the US don't get to hear much of the classical Whitesnake unless we pay expensive import prices for each album. There are songs on this I never heard in their entirity.

In the US, the only Whitensake albums you ever see at regular prices are Saints and Sinners and the hairband era.

I agree with you Scotsnake - my regular internet shop emailed me when the 'new' WS album came out, but there's absolutely nothing new on it for me (interesting that the cover message said it would be indispensable for completists....)

Good to hear a different point of view from Diostillrocks though - if it gets a enough sales in the US, maybe they'll wise up and re-release the old albums. Hope he gets a kick out of it anyway.

The one good thing about this compilation is that all tracks are remastered, which (IMO) makes it worth buying. DC explained over at

For those of you curious/interested...I've just delivered the artwork for 'Whitesnake...The Early Years' to EMI for an end of February release...(I hope!!!)...'Tis a little cracker, too!!!...18 corkers from 1978 to 1984!!!...I actually compiled this when I was putting the 'Silver Anniversary' double CD together...to be a 'companion' volume, as it were...So...for even the most discerning WS supporter...there will probably be an interesting 'mix' with these two projects...I am having LOTS of fun listening and working out to them...Hopefully You will, too...Some luvverly memories, as well...Peter Mew at Abbey Rd has remastered the tracks to bring all the aural/sonic delights out...OOO-ER!!!...FUN stuff!!!...So...I hope you enjoy. Daahhlings...Must dash...and before I forget...I am still a-waiting to hear from the Ol' Chap with whom I am going to mix the 'live' stuff...and...then I can get on with it...and that's about it for the moment...YEAH...BABY!!!...love and LIGHT...DC.
