John Sykes solo CDs, opinions?

For my personal Christmas present I've jacked in a big order in Amazon consisting, amongst other stuff, of two John Sykes solo CDs. The first one's called Loveland (and is I think a collection of ballads) while the other one is his latest, Nuclear Cowboy (which is supposed to have a lot of modern leanings...). Seeing that I've never had any other Sykes solo stuff (apart from Blue Murder albums) did I make the right choice in these two? How does the rest of his catalogue compare?

I cannot say much about Nuclear Cowboy (as I have not heard it). However Loveland is excellent and as you say, full of ballads. It includes a reworking of Please Don't Leave Me (Phil Lynott) titled Don't Hurt Me This Way. Also features a Beatle-esque tribute - Don't Say Goodbye.
In my opinion some of his best work is on this CD.

Another good one is Screaming Blue Murder Live which features BM, Solo, Lizzy tracks and a live version of Whitesnake's Still Of The Night.

I have another 3 of his solo releases 20th Century and Out Of My Tree, both are very much in the hard rock vain, and also Please Don't Leave Me, which has 3 versions of the above song and 8 Tygers Of Pan Tang tracks.

All in I reckon you have made a great choice with Loveland, could you let me know what NC is like when you get it.

Saw JS with Thin Lizzy last Thursday in Glasgow.....what a great night it was. emoticon

Cheers Martin, will let you know about Nuclear Cowboy alright (though from a couple of reviews I've read so far I'm not expecting too much I have to say).
