Last place in the list belongs to 3 doors down with 10.5 million in album sales. Purple must have sold more albums there than that. The RIAA figures IIRC only take US sales post-1979(ish.) Deep Purple sold 14 million units in 1973 alone , so the 36 M figure may have some validitynondisclosed_email@example.com (harryurz)Sun, 03 Jul 2005 13:31:33 +0000 Re: Deep Purple as successful as Janet Jacksonhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p51625,from=rss#post51625https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p51625,from=rss#post51625I read somewhere that the RIAA only updates Artists record sales if their managers request an audit. I'll bet Purples old managers havn't requested one in a long time. In 1976, Circus Magazine had an article that stated Purple sold in excess of 36 million albums from 1970-1973, and that when they broke up in 1976, they were, at that time, the all time biggest album sellers on the Warner Brothers record lable (this was their American lable in the 1970's). The RIAA doesn't even list Shades, Hush, TBOT as going gold but they did. Also, in an old issue of the DPAS magazine, they write that Purple had sold well in excess of 85 million albums by late 1970's.nondisclosed_email@example.com (doggone)Sat, 02 Jul 2005 23:27:17 +0000 Re: Deep Purple as successful as Janet Jacksonhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p51624,from=rss#post51624https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p51624,from=rss#post51624According to RIAA, Purple is not top 200 selling artist in US.
