Same setlist again
Can't understand why they play same setlist
again ( from Aug. 2003 to the last show in
Norway 20/5 2005) okay little bit diff. in
USA "Machine Head tour" but in all not much
news not even a live version of a old track.
I know "Demon's Eye", but has been there over a year now.
My ticket to Herning is not for sale, my
dreams was only toooo big.

Re: Same setlist again
This thing (keeping the same setlist) is one of the great dissapointments of the current mark. Before Jon Lords departure DP's setlist was very flexible and changing from night to night. When Don first came (due to Jon's illness at that time) they continued the tour having a standard setlist. Then they had the excuse that Don was very new to the band.
But the problem is not only the songs.I find that they play them in the same way too. It is a pity cause DP fans are used to some real improvisation (playing a song which is supposed to last 4 minutes and nod to the other guys in the band and keep it for another 10 minutes).

Re: Same setlist again
The long jams are not commercial enough. DP are playing at mini-festivals, and are co-headlining with other bands. They have to keep it simple and well-structured.
The band have to please the average audience, and the die-hard fans are not part of that audience.

Re: Same setlist again
So, the fans are the ones who don´t see the band, who keep saying bad stuff about the band, and insist on critisizing almost every new piece of music they put out ! Ok people who enjoy them and support them are a bunch of wankers that should get beaten because they think they are Deep Purpl fans then Alright

P.S. - seriously ... there are fans who like it and fans who don´t, but they are all simply fans !

Re: Same setlist again
It is not a matter of long jams I think. It is a matter of 'surprise' which used to be a basic element in a DP concert.

One could rather say die-hard fans go again and again no matter what. That's how they notice the setlist doesn't change from night to night.
Otherwise I miss more arroganse from the band. They should play nothing but what they like to play! I want Deep Purple to educate me, rather to serve me some greatest hits parade.

Agree, but i think that that surprise is gone because of the information sharing on the internet !! Now we know what to expect, in the 70´s it wasn´t like that !!

Re: Same setlist again
atle, you couldn't have said it better:
"I want Deep Purple to educate me, rather to serve me some greatest hits parade."
Yes things are different than in the 70's. The internet seems everywhere the information sharing is huge. True we are informed. and I do want DP to educate me. Even if it is one song changed in the setlist. It's that element of surprise for all of us well informed DP fans.
That would keep a lot of us coming back and happy too!
