Perhaps Robinson never felt the need to state the obvious. I could be wrong, though.

f) I'm the same way about the whole 'asking/asked for an answer' thing myself, Witchy.

Re: Simon Robinson and the DPAS.
Simon does a geat job. The DTB magazine has (to me) the best info on Purple. His reviews are always honest. He gave RB SIUA a very bad review, but he also did so with Gillans book and his last solo album, Dreamcatcher. I don't always agree with him but, hey, who cares?

Re: Simon Robinson and the DPAS.
The 1st DTB I ever received was on Friday 20th, 1987, the day of my 1st Purple gig in Paris. Since then I'm a reader and I thank Robinson very much for that.
Of course as a Blackmore fan, reading the mag between 89/91 and since 95 is a real pain for the treatment reserved to Ritchie, something I honestly he doesn't deserve. At least, now, Simon let the BN writting stuff to his brother who has a more objective point of view.
I have MBTP to make the counter-weight
But from RPM to Purple Records and now Sonic Zoom, he is doing a work that is irreplaceable according to me...

Re: Simon Robinson and the DPAS.
He - and his mates - have been doing a marvellous job!
As for personal opinions, it has to be that way. And it adds colour to things. Even if I find his attitude towards Gillan far more uncritical than the other DP members, past and present, it doesn't bother me at all.
If I'd want to criticise something, it has to be that there are so many projects on the way that very few seem to progress!

Re: Simon Robinson and the DPAS.
I posted this on another thread :
Simon will always be a hero to all Purple lovers for what he has done for us. I've been in the DPAS for 25 years now. I would never want to be in a "fan club" that idolises regardless. What I always enjoyed with the DPAS is that it could be sensibly and constructively critical of Purple-related releases. As regards Blackmore, I was never too struck on JLT era Rainbow, and the views in the DPAS were never too far from my own.
I do think that Simon's review of SIUA was an exceptionally poor one. Whereas previously he had pointed out good and bad points and given good reasons for disliking on balance certain releases, the SIUA review just came across as an ill-considered prejudged bashing. It reminded me of the kind of reviews that stopped me buying "Sounds" in the late 70s - no attempt to tell us about the record, just an excuse to fire off at a sitting target.
It seemed to me as if something personal (don't ask me exactly what)had got so far in to Simon's conscience that he was no longer capable of judging Blackmore's work objectively.
The person I feel sorry for in all this is Dougie White. Dougie is a very good singer and seems to be a decent bloke - a true fan who understood how lucky he was to have the opportunity to work with a genius. Compare and contrast JLT who probably thinks that Blackers was honoured to work with him. Dougie deserved to read something positive about his input in DTB - a mag he himself once subscribed to.
I am not saying that SIUA surpasses Rising or anything like that. It is a patchy album that has good points and bad points. It is a shame that the DPAS never issued a balanced review praising the good points and knocking the bad points.
Since then, I think Simon has tried to walk away a bit, and I think that BN reviews in the DPAS mag have not come from Simon himself.
