Re: Best show from the Perfect Strangers tour?

I was at the Joe Louis show as well, I remember it being very good!. I still think the concert in Toronto was better still, although I do remember Gillan having some problems.

The COW PALACE show was indeed January 1985. My mistake. It felt like April.

It is good to know that there are others on this forum that caught the Detroit shows. They were great.

Were you guys at the first, second, or both? As I stated, Gillan was in fine form for the first, but a little rough for the second show, but still quite good for the most part.

Either way, we that saw those shows were most certainly blessed. Way better stuff than the Knebworth show and probably better than all of the HOBL tour shows, although they put on a fine show in Toledo during that tour.

Indianapolis March 13th,1985.Of all of the shows I've heard from that tour,Indy beat them all hands down, although one of the Osaka shows was also pretty hot,I can't think of the boot name.I haven't heard the Joe Louis shows to compare.I saw Purple a few weeks later in Vancouver,I think the 4th of April, and Gillan could barely talk, forget singing.Very sub standard, and no Smoke.

c parsons.......you were supremely blessed as well to catch them at their peak too.but there is no way it beat detroit hands down.maybe a tie......as good as detroit......but honestly......the first detroit concert was the blueprint for the PS tour.it is very sad they have NO complete concert footage of any of those shows out on dvd.we have denmark and doing their thing ect........ but no FREAKING LEGENDERY PURPLE PERFECT STRANGERS REUNION CONCERT COMEBACK DVD.......??????????? pathetic.that was the time, if any,in the last twenty years to issue a full dvd concert.

Sadly, it predated DVD emoticon.

Unfortunately there are law suits filed by Blackmore vs. Thames Talent that have set any full concert releases back. These suits are still active today. Bruce spend most of his time in court these day.

Re: Best show from the Perfect Strangers tour?

I didn't see the show in Detroit that year. The Toledo show was right around that time. I think that they had also gone to Flint for a show and they were all bunched together.

Gillan was very good in Toledo. The screams at the end of SKOW were excellent, way better than the awful guitar/vocal duel that just preceeded them.

The rest of the band was hot. Blackers put on a real show, as did Lord. Paice and Glover were their usual excellent selves, Paice doing a fine solo with Glover as animated as usual.

I was right up front, but not too close, and had a great view. A friend of mine caught a Paice drum stick. All in all, a great experience for Toledo.

They had all played in Toledo in various bands over the years. They actually enjoyed playing here. The Sports Arena was a great venue for a medium town. Kind of beaten up, but you couldn't hurt it. A great place for a good, rowdy, smoked-up concert.

As I said,I haven't heard a Joe Louis show to compare, just of the shows I saw or have heard. Not to start a flame thing,I really thought little of most of the reunion,to be honest. On another thread someone has quotes by Gillan and Ritchie about each other being the weak link, much of the time it was both. They really killed their own momentum, from sellout after sellout to half houses in two years has to be some sort of a record.
