Re: White Noise - Review & Set List (Carlisle)

I've seen six different "tribute bands" in recent years, (if you include White Noise), and every one was excellent. I would go and see any of them again. I don't see the "tribute band" label as being a bad thing, which is exactly why I said Does it matter a damn what you call it?.

BTN, as far as I can tell, has a bit of a bee in his bonnet about tribute bands, which he appears to see as demeaning to people like Doogie White. So he's manufacturing some kind of "naming dilemma" out of my review (Pretty clearly , the "What to call it" dilema has challanged this forum exactly as I said it would -- actually, no, I haven't noticed anyone on this forum find this to be a dilemma, other than BTN himself) in order to... well, to be honest I have no idea what his motiviations are, I just know he's finding things in my review that are not there.

To take the arguement one step further:

Hughes/Turner- singing Deep Purple/Rainbow songs, Tribute?
David Coverdale singing Whitesnake songs that Marsden/Moody wrote the music for, Tribute?
M3 playing Whitesnake songs that they wrote the music but DC wrote the lyrics, Tribute?
Rainbow playing Mistreated, RB wrote the music but DC wrote the lyrics, Tribute?
Whitesnake playing Mistreated/Burn etc. Tribute?

You can take all this too far and it would get very confused.

ie: All orchestras are merely tribute bands to the composers that they play!!!!!

1) Amusing as it is to read you flattering yourself, my posting has nothing much at all to do with your review. As soon as these gigs were anounced I posted on a topic here posing the question "What Are They ?". It was interesting that when an earlier gathering of ex-Rainbow people were doing some gigs, people here were very quick to say they were a "tribute" and it was bad.
2) YES it present a large dilema, you even posted in that topic with the predictable "what does it matter what we call them ? ", it's the best cop out ever. Let's not discuss what they really are let pretend it doesn't matter. Well I guess it's a variation on the "lets pretend it never happened" which is equally usualy hereabouts. SO here we all were with WN, an obvious tribute, yet people here suddenly lost their tonques. It's quite obvious why. The way it goes is "DW posts here,so we'd better not upset him", like anyone should really care.
3) Regarding my mortivations, you're spot on there mate, you haven't a clue, not the foggiest, that's for sure.

So here's another question for you, seeing as "it doesn't matter what we call them " is your line.

What is Rainbow Rising then ?
Are they a Cover Band ?
A Tribute Band ?

No doubt they also post here, so this'll be interesting to hear !

Very witty, but quite correct, certainly it was a dammed fine album, but a much less than fine tribute band from what I've heard and seen!

Sheeeesh...this thread has totally taken the fun out of rock n roll for me!

Think I will sell my record collection and become a politician instead.

Which gathering of ex-Rainbow people? The only other one I'm aware of was the Bonnett/Airey Band. Superb band, as you can see from my review. At the moment, you're the only person I can find on this whole forum who is calling tribute bands bad.
