The voice for DP will always be IAN GILLAN.

To mix a few "loves" of mine (in this case, Deep Purple and the original crew of the Starship Enterprise)...

"Ian Gillan has been, and ever shall be, THE MAN"!

Short and simple!!!

The Greatest Hard Rock Vocalist of All Times is Ian Gillan, no one else comes close. Have some of his abilities to vocalize been lost to the hazards of non-stop touring, partying and the like, YOU BETCHA. Has his image become kind of silly, then again yes, but he is still the man. There are only two others that compare in the Deep Purple Family and they are Jon Lord and RICARDO.

I am a big fan of the Coverdale/Hughes line-up... As much as I love Deep Purple and Rainbow, I need intense singing. Coverdale and Hughes are so emotional, they are the best. Thats why I prefer Come Taste the Band over the Gillian Purple albums. Also, early Ronnie James Dio in Rainbow, is very amazing. I call Coverdale, Hughes, and Dio the big three.. From 1974-76 these three men can not be touched in the vocals department.

music is an emotional medium,no doubt about it.
what touches one person may mean nothing to another.
pretty much everyone who has contributed to this debate has a love for dp and the wonderful music they have given us down the years.
why do we have to have a favourite out of these men?,they have all given us joy and at times frustration.
in an earlier post i conceded that jlt may not have been a wise choice for dp but there is no doubting his talent(check the htp albums).
gh had his 'wilderness ' years but now is in some of the best musical/vocal form of his life
ig has worked ceaselessly with dp and with his own projects
dc too is in good form and with whitesnake in it's various line ups has given us some memorable music.
what i would say is lets be grateful for all of them, and appreciative of all their vocal talents, and the great music they have given us

I grew up half a mile from JLT..His family welcomed me as a kid and the guy is VERY Talented...I always liked his voice...I think he is singing better now then he did in purple and rainbow.. His range seems much better now.. when most of the older singers usually lose their range.. He gets up really up there nowadays and seems to go for it more.
