It's not a matter of technical prowess. I just like his sound quality. It is for similar reasons that I am a big fan of the following singers: David Coverdale, Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Mark Knopfler, Ian Anderson None of them can claim much of a vocal range or power in their voice, but the feeling that comes with their singing. Technically by today's standards, it is hard to argue against Glenn Hughes within the DP family.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Carramba)Mon, 30 May 2005 04:11:58 +0000 Re: Turner, Hughes, Coverdale, Gillan? Gillan- one of the most charismatic front man and an a unique identifiable voice. Pure Rock n' Roll and let's say he doesn't have the high range of Child in Time anymore, his middle and low range is all the better because of it. Definitely the voice of Purple. Hughes: Unbelievable range, sings with such passion and although over the top at times, you gotta love the guys drive and a great songwriter and underrated bass player JLT: My favorite. Awesome high end range with Rainbow, but has gotten better with age. Can sing anything and his live singing/ad libbing is (despite others comments) great. Probably the best pure voice of the three and the most versatile. About two years ago I had the pleasue of seeing him sit in with a blues band and sing "Thrill is Gone", "Lucille" & "Going Down" He has great respect for all the Purple singers. Man, somebody has been hitting on the Meds that Grandma left on the counter. Seems like a good old JLTBS rises his ugly head once more... Turner IS fantastic and IMHO he kicks both Gillan's and Coverdale's ass these days with plenty of new powerful material each year. Purple delivered one (a good one though) album in the last 6 years (while JLT gave us more then 10 brilliant records since 1998), Coverdale doesn't even think about anything new (his only CD in the last 7 years was a disaster) - a classic nostalgia act if you ask me.  Hughes is a different story for sure. He does have some quality stuff each year for sure (the best one with JLT however) and has my huge respect these days. Still he suffers from the same "over the top screaming" desease that always had. So, no matter how good they all are, Turner IS the man these days! nondisclosed_email@example.com (REAL JOHNMCCOY)Thu, 28 Oct 2004 08:50:24 +0000 Re: Turner, Hughes, Coverdale, Gillan?
