Re: Ritchie Strat
I would imagine the "Holy Grail" in terms of collectable guitars that Ritchie has a history with, would have to be the Stratocaster given to him by Clapton.
If I have the story straight, it had a warped or bowed neck that made it rather uncomfortable to play. So Clapton gave it to Ritchie, who at that point had never spent any serious time with a Strat, and the rest is history.
If either Ritchie or Clapton brought that guitar to auction (Clapton has done this for charity), with proper documentation, I imagine the sky would be the limit.

Re: Ritchie Strat
quote: I seem to remember this being advertised on eBay before, a number of years ago - Stuart Smith was indeed the seller but the final price was only a couple of thousand dollars; the story was that he was building a home studio and needed the cash.
You're right, here's the link to the discussion on Usenet where this was mentioned, Stuart Smith sold it late 2002. Unfortunately that one is no longer in the eBay archives available....

Yeah, guess you're right. Maybe the same reason someone wants to pay money for a wreck of a guitar, that once was trashed by RB. (and then only a replica).

Yeah, but it works well enough for people who just know purple well enough to say:"Wow you have a guitar of Ritchie Blackmore!" but not well enough to tell it´s a replica.

Well if they had been there, I can understand someone would have liked to have it, but from ebay??? Nah.

Re: Ritchie Strat
It´s nice to have those gimmicks when you´re there. But it´s specially nice if those someone usually doesn´t even throw anything in the crowd.
E.g. owning a plec by the guitarist of Cheap Trick is nothing to be proud of, I don´t think there´s any CT fan who attended a gig and doesn´t have one.

True, but still you need to be the one picking it up / fighting for it at the show. Not just someone with a lot of money he/she don't know what to do with, who was lucky enough to win an auktion.(And then not even any proof that it has really belonged to RB)

They must be shooting them of with some heavy fireworks, if they can hit the back of the venue
Anyway that goes for most modern guitarist, including Morse/Glover they get rid of a lot too during a show. Nothing negative in that statement.

I'm a big fan of Trick, but I don't have a guitar pick! Then again I don't care for it either! I do know what you mean though!
[edit]I would be interested if he started throwing guitars. A nice Hamer Standard! This way please! Thank you![/edit]

Re: Ritchie Strat
Well apparently it's been sold for the bargin "buy-it-now" price of jsut $60,000 or aroudn £32K in real money!
Just goes to prove there's always another one coming down the tracks!
Bizzarely, the buyer's id was SS then some numbers. Funny that, Stuart Smith, mayb ehe had sellers remores and felt like buying it back. Also despite saying if was only availble to Continental USA biddres the winner claims to be in Sweden ! Maybe that the 53rd STate.
If only the buyer had called me I just found that old "Cal Jam" Strat under some old boxes back in the Woodshed where I put after the concert in 1974, why I'd have let him have on a buy-it-now for a good price.
What noise does a Donkey make when it's getting screwed ??!!
