Re: Ritchie Strat
Here's a few other pics of interest
Notice how both guitars are natural strats one with a maple neck the other with rosewood. Ritche played a Maple Necked Natural at the Californa Jam didn't he, but I don't think I've ever seen a picture of him with a Natural Strat witha Rosewood neck, but I could be wrong.

Re: Ritchie Strat
Yep, it's Stuart "I Wish I Was Ritchie Blackmore " Smith.
I've also come across an interview where he talks about selling the Strat Ritchie gave him and how he's changed it, including replacing the pickups and recutting the scallops to suit him, so that guitar for sale is either a very good forgery or he might actually be telling the truth because he claims to have a certificate of authenticity...but then again, that could be faked as well or Stuart Smith could have been fibbing to the guy selling it right now....
There's no way anyone can really be 100% sure that it is the same guitar he says it is but even if it is the genuine article then I still think it would be like buying the Mona Lisa after someone's drawn a moustache on it and you'd have to be stark raving mad to pay 32 grand for it.

Somewhere and I can't quite remember where I read an article about ebay scams and "Vintage Guitars" where high on the list. Of course I wouldn't suggest that this auction was anything other than quite authentic, but it makes you think doesn't it just.
Hey ho.... off to the old tool shed at the bottom of the garden.....with that Mexican Strat I bought last week....... and a few good pictures from the "Life and Times of Richard Hugh Blackmore" .....I feel a undiscovered famous relic Start about to be discovered.......anyone got the odd $70K free right now...............how do you spell authentic again !

Re: Ritchie Strat
Vintage guitars are a huge scam everywhere, I read once that it's estimated that there are at least twice as many forgeries of pre-CBS Fenders circulating on the vintage guitar market than real ones.
If it's a forgery then he's done his homework but without Ritchie personally verifying it then I can't see how anyone can be sure it isn't.
Next weekend I'm going to see how much I can get for my authentic Ian Anderson owned flute that's been fitted with new head and foot joints and has had all the pads and keywork replaced......

Re: Ritchie Strat
Get this BTW I found it on an interview site, Stuart Smith seems to be saying he BOUGHT a Natural with the Rosewood Neck, unless I mis-read it! Funy that isn't it !
"Q. Still the same pair of Stratocaster's as used on the 'Heaven & Earth' album?
SS: Yes, but with one new one that I bought to replace one I gave to the Hard Rock Cafe. It's a natural body with a rosewood neck. I also used it at The Gods Festival last year."

Re: Ritchie Strat
"Stone Cold video from the band Deep Purple" as it says on the auction.
That is so silly! We all know that Ritchie played in a band called Bon Jovi!

Re: Ritchie Strat
I seem to remember this being advertised on eBay before, a number of years ago - Stuart Smith was indeed the seller but the final price was only a couple of thousand dollars; the story was that he was building a home studio and needed the cash. Again I am working from memory, but there was something about the pickguard and the pickups not being the originals given by Ritchie to SS, but they were included in the original sale. Which might explain the caveats listed above, and also means that this guy presumably still has the originals ("view my other auctions"?...). - ironically, the original 2k price tag is now not so far off what any old 70s strat costs these days..

Off-topic, but for my money he comes closer to Ritchie Blackmore than anybody else. I've seen him live and if you close your eyes...

I'd rather hear the real thing, everything else is just a copy, good or bad.
