Why there's NO deluxe edition of the classic albums?

Do you not envy Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath fans?

Led Zeppelin issued the deluxe and mega super deluxe box sets edition of all their studio albums.

Black Sabbath is slowly releasing deluxe or super deluxe box set of the Ozzy era albums, that's PARANOID, VOLUME 4, SABOTAGE and even the Dio era albums, I read somewhere they are planning to release deluxe edition of TECHNICAL ECTASY.

50th anniversary of IN ROCK and FIREBALL just went by without a deluxe release. Let's hope the 50th anniversary of MACHINE HEAD will get notice.

Do you want a deluxe box set of the classic albums???

Those mega super deluxe boxes take up space and as always, drain the bank account.

The upgrades to all the original #2 albums I reckon contained pretty much everything that was available.

The Sabbath albums were padded out with some Live stuff but I don't think there's anything left of decent quality by DP from that era.

As to the Whitesnake box sets apart from the re-mixes there's little merit in them (IMO). The evolution discs from previous issues have had one listen from me and them never again. For Restless Heart i'm just getting the re-mix and nothing else.

Am thinking we got what we're going to get....In Rock, Fireball, Machine Head, Burn and Stormbringer had anniversary versions over the last couple of decades or so, I bought them all. They seemed to contain enough extras that I too wonder what is left. I'd imagine any record company that could would try to mark the 50 year landmark but they would have to contain something really special for me to buy yet another version of records that I already have on vinyl and digital, sometimes multiples. And dear god, please don't make me buy another copy of Smoke.

Do agree that the Purple catalog has been treated poorly, a legacy I suppose of the management but they are hardly unique in that regard.

I think there were some vetoes at some point, to complicate matters. My understanding is that some band members don’t want what was originally deemed not worthy of ending up on the album to get published.
Having said that, what I don’t like at all is that they did nothing at all about Perfect Strangers -all they did on the CD version was to include SOA, which was initially a b-side.
For an album selling over six million copies, one would think that they could at least remaster it properly.

What would we get that isn't in the anniversary additions? They all had some excellent alternative takes and every one of them, other than Machine Head, had some cool tunes not on the regular albums. Either way, I just don't see the value in whatever deluxe editions of the classic MKIIa line-up they might likely release. emoticon

I guess every fans could easily acquire or buy this anniversary vinyl edition at every stores and it could be very cheap and readily available. The anniversary edition vinyl is a rarity collectors item IMHO, but I respect your opinion though.

Those vinyl editions are well worth purchasing, if you can find them at a fair price. My post was more about anything that they could release now from the MKIIa era. Very little is left that hasn't already been put out there. What they have may not have very good sound quality or is just too similar to what has already been released. Maybe they could release some stuff from the reunion-era where Gillan actually sounds good. Lord knows that they usually release stuff where he sound pretty bad or, at best, somewhat hoarse. emoticon

There must be so much more available from all eras, in terms of recordings. Outside of vetoes, I think the limit is that they probably recorded various takes that were similar in nature and would be a repetition- in other words, they only recorded once the version was fully worked-out.
The opposite is Dylan - if you look at his bootleg series, there are entire CDs with different versions of a single song, because he got into the studio without having a fixed idea about how the song should sound and there are therefore maybe ten versions of each song, and most of them sound different, sometimes radically different.
Maybe DP, despite the talent for improvisation, in the studio were very disciplined and always played the same way.
