Well, not everyone can be like Dylan who can improvise new lyrics on the spot, and darn interesting ones at that.

In a year when there are almost none concerts possible we really discuss/complain about singers using teleprompters? Quite funny ;-)...

Well, I'm not too happy when rock artists use teleprompters or lyric sheets to perform their own tracks. But then again, if they have to do it, they should do it with teleprompters. The only problem with Ian Gillan IMHO is, that he sometimes doesn't know the lyrics for maybe one new song. But it looks strange, when he gets out his lyric sheets and has to stay besides the drums to read the lyrics during this whole song. With teleprompters on stage you can still walk around (even if in a limited way). And besides the monitors they are not too obvious, too (well, if you're only using in-ear-monitoring it's different, of course).

He doesnt work with lyrics sheets like that anymore. Now he has large sheets of papers with lyrics placed on his center place of stage - exactly where common teleprompters would be placed. If he has a paper close to drums, it´s setlist.

My photo from 2015 - songs on sheets were Demon´s Eye, Vincent Price, Silver Tongue, Hip Boots and The Battle Rages On. You can see setlist in front of drums.

In 2017 he had a lyric sheet in his pocket for "Johnny's band", he took it out for the song and placed it beside the drums, where he stood for the whole song...

Looking at lyric sheets makes it feel like a dress rehearsal. So, not ideal.

Yea, I guess most people think he's checking whether he's barefooted on stage again.
