Re: Rapture of the Deep: 15th Anniversary
A poor album IMHO - from the artwork, to the songs, performance and sound.

It could be the worst deep purple album of all time, yes.

Interesting to know that there are people here who do not consider Slaves & Masters being the worst DP album ever.

Re: Rapture of the Deep: 15th Anniversary
Definitely not. S&M is ranked above quite a few other albums. Have some great songs on it. It only lacks the edge of the best albums.

Re: Rapture of the Deep: 15th Anniversary
I like S&M better than ROTD and Stormbringer.

Re: Rapture of the Deep: 15th Anniversary
ROTD is the DP album i enjoy the least (apart from the Concerto) ,some good tracks for sure ,but some bloody awful tracks too ,and the sound/production is utter SH!T.Its still an OK album though
S&M is a still a very good album to my ears in spite of the godawful JLT.
Different singer and it would have been a superb album IMHO.

Re: Rapture of the Deep: 15th Anniversary
That's how tastes differ . O agree with most here that RotD is a pretty boring album, but at least it's not annoying. However, to me S&M is exactly that.
This is partially due to JLT's singing and the dreadful lyrics (hey, even a non-English mother tongue notices that ). But it's pretty much the whole performance of the band. Jon's keys sound far too poppy for me, the rhythm section also has lost its edge (e. g. this dongdongdongdong of KoD - I disliked it from the very beginning. This song is just plodding along).
I've never been a real fan of JLT phase Rainbow but on that record (at last to my ears) they managed to drag all the DP musicians on a level below the respective Rainbow albums .
So if someone should put RotD on the turntable I wouldn't get excited but at least I wouldn't stand up to change the record. In case of S&M I would

So there's a vinyl colored reissue of Rapture coming out in march, that claims to be "remixed". Anybody knows if this is the one that Roger mentioned? I'd guess that Ezrin is involved as well and that it should also come out on cd as well, so I'm a bit suspicious.
I don't think it's the remix version. I think it's remaster.
I pre-ordered it already, because of "THINGS I NEVER SAID" and "THE WELL DRESSED GUITAR" studio version, I do not have that instrumental.
I just hope they did not change the artwork cover, I like the original better than the darker version.

I just picked this up today. Now, i'm not an audiophile by any means and my dodgy Crosley turntable is hardly a decent barometer to come up with any useful intel. But a poster at another forum compared the DR values betwixt the 2005 (10) and 2021 (12) versions, so there's that.
What do you think? An improvement to your ears?
