Difficult to understand, there may be factors involved we have no clue about. I tend to think it’s not primarily money - both Bob and David live close to Ritchie, and not paying them means paying more Pat Regan or whoever programs the drums.

It's him, I guess his performance is vastly superior in the studio these days. when he can work in a more relaxed environment and record multiple takes. I would not be surprised if he had played the bass himself as well, he has done it also in the past a few times.

Honestly? I personally couldn't care less about the drums. It's a great re-recording and I like it very much. With 74 you can't say it's a fault to make recordings from your home in a more comfortable setting than in a studio. And people saying it's not Ritchie playing is probably the most hilarious thing I ever heard about a song Ritchie has recorded. Thanks for a giving me a good laugh in the morning. Nice way to start the day.
