The Who Heaven and hell

first track on live at Leeds, have a listen at around 2:01, sounds very much like this inspired the Kill the king instrumental theme to me

A little tenuous I think. On a more obscure level, listen to Mud's Watching The Clock. The main theme seems based on the opening bars of the Highway Star solo.

Ahh, Live at Leeds, what a great album. The Who were a much more aggresive group than DP, who on the other hand seemed to have been more melodic. The Who seemed almost punk in their attitude whereas Purple were more rock n roll. Loved them both.
