It's good yes and as you say great middle section!
Just like Seventh Heaven, another great song from Abandon.

I thought the tour for Abandon was great and it yielded an amazing live album too, Total Abandon. I haven't heard the single disc version of it, what was left off?

Re: Revisiting Abandon
I hated this album when it came out (and still rate it as poor) but have always really liked Don't Make Me Happy and have a soft spot for Fingers To The Bone.
Funnily enough Jack Ruby has grown on me. I didn't realise that it came from the HOBL sessions - would have been a better track than a few of the fillers and would have had TMIB on banjo. In my mad world, I can see it on WDWTWA around Our Lady and Place In Line....

Jack Ruby is the only number that I feel should have been left off the record. If it wasn't good enough in HOBL days, how come it got better 10 years later?
Jack Ruby's from the HoBL sessions?

Great! Thanx! I'll try to read the whole thing but found the bit about Jack Ruby.

Total Abandon, for me, is easily the best dvd Mk7/8 has put out. Great tour, great dvd. But between when I saw them in 1998 and when the dvd was filmed, Gillan had cut his hair ( and I think stopped coloring it, as he seemed instantly grayer). When I saw them, he he came out with the hair, it was what I imagined DP being like in concert. Weird how stupid things matter.

Agree on the hair, he was fine in his longer style.

I think that Bombay Calling is the best live dvd in the MKMorse DP arsenal. Total Abandon comes in second to me and I'm not a big fan of Perihelion, although it is still not bad at all.
Abandon is one of those albums that could have been shortened somewhat, like Physical Graffiti or The Wall. Some really fine tunes, but man, it is a slog.

Re:
For me it's monochromatic. The whole thing just blends into one. I love Seventh Heaven, Almost Human & Any Fool Kno That but the rest leaves me cold. Weakest set of songs of any Morse album. Better but colourless production that any of the Bradford efforts.

Re: Revisiting Abandon
I really like this album. When it first came out I thought that the songs on the second half of the album (CD) were weak but they grew on me. "She Was" is a great song because it certainly is different and I like the way Gillan sings it. "Whatsername is one of the songs I wished they would have done live. The Abandon and Concerto tour were the highlites of the Morse years (IMHO). After the end of the tour they should have immediately made another album.

Re: Revisiting Abandon
It's a great album. When it was released I thought it was too cold and lacked the friendly feel that Purpendicular had but it grew on me and now I play it regularly. It's one of my favourites.
The biggest problem is the track order. There are too many tracks with a similar feel during the second half. The songs are fine, but the album just loses momentum. However, using the "shuffle" function solves that problem.
Two of my favourite tracks are Whatsername and Evil Louie.
