I have no problem with anyone who enjoys listening to the current line up, that is their choice.
My opinion (and it is only an opinion) is that IG is not capable of singing MK II material anymore. It makes no difference if the material is difficult or not, DP charge top price for their tickets, he should be able to sing it to a professional standard (know the words and the tune). The last DP concert I went to in November, IG did nothing to a professional standard.

Does anyone do mistakes in their profession? Do you? If you sit in front of YT and judge, with your whisky in hand, forget it..
Most people are fine with what they get, only a few nitpickers get somewhat upset.

Yes, mistakes happen…. Ritchie messed up guitar riff introduction to Smoke On The Water on Made In Japan. Noone makes a big deal from it. IG forgot lyrics in Highway Star on Made In Japan. Noone makes big deal from it. The same IG probably forgot lyrics in Birds Of Prey on one particular show and it´s big deal now because now he is old and in 1972 he wasnt. In 2018, forgetting the lyrics is inproffesional, in 72 it´s part of the best live album in rock history. emoticon

No, RB did not mess up SOTW riff. It was part of the show. An "in joke". Listen to all 3 japan gigs and hear Gillan's reaction. Same as the "died with an awful sound" line always followed by a literal awful sound.

Again apologies for replying to my own post but, ptr, these were the nuances that made DP stand head and shoulders above everybody else.

And there is the crux of the matter. There are no nuances anymore, just just the same setlist night after night. Of course I will be called a blackmoron because for EU 70 I expect the singer to be able to sing and bother learning the lyrics.
This site only wants people who will say everything that DP produce is great I am afraid. Any other opinion is ridiculed.

Re: IG forgetting lyrics. Who cares ? Improvise with a quick mind and a strong voice as in 69-72 and it will be wonderful. And it was. Attempt to do it as a 70+ ?

He didn't miss anything. IF you watch the stuff that was filmed, they were having a bit of fun. You could see them smiling at each other. Back then, Gillan was the best, as was Ritchie. That IG didn't take care of his wonderful voice is a shame. Almost criminal. So Ritchie quit playing rock for twenty years and hardly picked up his Strat during that time. I listened to Catch The Rainbow from 2018 and it was pretty damn good. RR was exceptional on that tune. Gillan can't do HS or most other MKII tunes justice any more. I think that he would sound fine if he stepped it down somewhat. It would sound better than the current way he does HS and most of the other MKII tunes. Ritchie plays like someone who hasn't played rock in a long time. I think that he knows it and is fine with it. IG should do the same.

Ah, that issue again., As if we hadn't discussed this often enough. emoticon

However, that was once. At the 1993 tour, Gillan messed up the lyrics to Hush every time they did it. He didn't bother to learn these few lines (I know them - probably as one of many people here) over all these weeks. And for me, it's a simple matter of respect towards the audience to learn the lyrics, chords, whatever someone has to know to perform properly.

When Gillan handed in his notice in 72 he cited lack of progression, compromisation of integrity, stasis basically. Now he's in charge.... Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

This is intended as a humourous post but probably won't be perceived as such. When I was a kid I was a huge fan of Marvel comics, particulary the Avengers (old comics, not modern movie reboots). It always struck me that the member with the least fantastic powers(Cap)was the leader. It's bank holiday weekend, chill out...

Nice analogy, you got a point, but he is the oldest, got to follow seniority.
😜😊

Re: Mark IX?

The Long Goodbye Tour is ending in November? Is that correct or not? Steve said in the interview that its his last with the band and I believe him.

After "TLGT", this is my personal opinion.

Morse - will leave, to continue with the Dregs.
Gillan - will continue with DP.
Glover - same as Gillan.
Airey - will continue with DP.
Paice - will continue but will limit the band to a minimal touring.

My prediction - Mark IX begins in 2019 and a new studio album in 2020. I can't wait!

😀😎🤑
