Re: Mark IX?
The trouble is selling Black Sabbath with Iommi/Ozzy is easy. Selling The Who with Townsend/Daltrey is easy. Selling DP with Morse/Airey not quite the same. When I made the first of my many moronic posts on this forum following RB's decision to put Rainbow together again I think I described it as the end of the DP story. Proved right I think. Given the choice between the RB style of lack of rehearsal/no idea what the set list is/will he actually turn up/excitement within an older audience willing it to work and DP's here are our greatest hits in the style of Val Doonican. I know what I choose.

Re: Mark IX?
I'd choose Rainbow because it's been so long I've seen Blackmore on stage, but to be honest I prefer the setlist AND the playing of dP.

Seen both in the last few months and dp is on a different level compared to Rainbow. Sorry to say.

Re: Mark IX?
Why go to a DP gig when you've already got it on DVD ?

Although, having said that, the excitement of guessing whether IG will croak, gasp, cough, sneeze, succumb to the black death etc must be very entertaining. To ptr at least.

I respectfully disagree on this - I know that DP is a very well-oiled machine that rarely makes a mistake (vocals aside), and in a few cases the instrumentalists are either downright better, or at least more well-rehearsed, but...the playing is so predictable with DP, it's so much in their comfort zone, and it's so repetitive, I think they don't exploit the potential for improvisaton that most MKII songs have. It's like playing jazz standards by continuing to repeat the theme endlessly with no improvisation...what's the point?
And also the setlist...I would rather hear Stargazer, Mistreated, Catch the Rainbow and Temple of the King, than Pictures of Home, Fireball, and Into the Fire - but both are great setlists.

My dream band would be Airey - Blackmore - Glover - Paice - Romero. With a setlist of their choice.

With the exception of the Black Death, I think that all that happens at a DP concert. I keep wondering when his head will explode as he forces out HS or some other MKII classic. It looks like a big raspberry when he when he tries to hit some of those notes with any modicum power. It's kind of like he is trying to eject a big Cleveland Steamer. As I said, he will be the first to go, sorry to say.

Now that is an entertaining thought. But by definition it is Rainbow with Paicey on drums.
