I think he still can do it, but he doesn't want to do it anymore all the time like in the old days. Today it's not about speed anymore for him, more about a good melody.

And that's where the problem is. He doesn't have any good melodies anymore. I don't care much for speed as long as you have something interesting to say musically, but Blackmore clearly hasn't. The creative spark is gone. There are exceptions. There are glimpses here and there that shows he still has it. But for some reason he seems to take the easy way out most of the time. When it's time for a solo Blackmore goes on autopilot and do the same set of standard licks he has relied on for years. It gets boring and predictable. But that is my opinion. I guess a drunk audience who is only there to scream their lungs out during Black Night and Smoke on the Water see things in a different way.

I don't think the change between acoustic and electric is that big either.
The acoustic guitar is harder to play, and this is something Blackmore himself claims as well. That's why we should expect him to play better when he plays electric. It doesn't take much time to adjust.

We should also remember that Blackmore HAS played electric during all years with BN so its not unfamiliar territory. And I don't think it's too much to ask a professional artist who charges big $$ to make the proper preparations for a concert or a short tour either. It's not like Candice has put all his Strats in a locked room and only let Ritchie pick up the Strat when it was time for rehearsal. Blackmore could easily have spent two weeks (or as much time as he needed) getting used to the Strat (if that was ever a problem).

Of course it takes time to put a band together and get the type of chemistry it needs. But he has played with Bob and David in Blackmore's Night so they should be familiar with each other, and Jens is so skilled he can play anything and he is a big fan of DP and Rainbow and he could probably play the songs backwards if that was required. A week of solid and structured rehearsals could make wonders to any band.. Before the first tour, Jens claimed the rehearsals were very loose and they spent a lot of time jamming and playing songs that didn't make the setlist including old rock n roll numbers (Gene Vincent songs etc).

Mistreated has been a highlight from day 1.
Slower tempo which suits RB these days for soloing. The version on MIR2 is great imo, the middle bit where he brigs the song down is brilliant.

I wish it had been one of the alternate tracks on the MIR release, as I though Loreley was a better version

I have to say, unfortunately Stefan72, I agree with every word of niji is saying!
But still Ritchie has 'that' of which no one else has. I still love his guitar playing and he still has these magical moments now and then. He still is my all time favorite guitar hero!!! But nowadays it's mostly his guitar sound what ecxites and interest me the most. No one can beat his sound.
But niji clearly has a point. Ritchie should read or know this.
The melody and variation is gone! The question is: why? Is it only the arthretis or is there more we should know??

Niji - just one thing: David and Bob both play/ed in BN, but never together, they were there at different times.

Re: Moscow 2018 - an all-time low from RB

Some impressions from the gig at the Olympiskij which I attended.

Huge arena/stadium without much atmosphere, didn't like it much. Bad acoustics.

Huge crowd which seemed to love Rainbow 100%.

I went without much expectations since I've seen previous shows in various formats.
Ritchie is not THE rock guitarist he used to be, I've fond memories from the 1993 tour and the SIUA tour 1995. Loved one of the two BN dates I've seen too.
The man is not a rock guitarist anymore, don't know what to call it but it lacks all the excitement from the past.
The band is fine but no more, compared to Purple who I saw in november, they sound dated.
Anyway it was fun thing to do since being there and a change from ballet and musicals which others like in my company.

I guess this was the last time and that is in it self a melancholy feeling.

Some other observations. Outside it was a BIG billboard at the top of the stadium advertising the upcoming dp show in end of may.
Didn't see anything for Rainbow, but a friend saw a smaller one.

Rainbow didn't use any LED Screens, which was strange in this massive place.
