Re: The Studio Albums (1984-2017) Ranked
I forced myself to listen to Bananas this morning...its fresh in my brain and I still can't recall anything about it sticking out aside from how boring it was...this tour was also the last time I saw them live.

Re: The Studio Albums (1984-2017) Ranked
Pity that the forum archive doesn't seem to go back to the Bananas launch days (summer 2003), but I recall pretty good reception of the album and the accompanying tours. Also Michael Bradford got some praise here and there: https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/t1435
Set aside pretty amateurish cover pic, I still like the album, not even objecting to "Haunted", which has quite an interesting - and not so easy to sing - melodic line, which needs a bit of getting used to. If I were to cross any track from this LP, it rather would be "Walk On", which just doesn't belong there, but perhaps they had some deal with Bradford to mention his involvement also in song credits?...

Re: The Studio Albums (1984-2017) Ranked
Unranked)S&M (Never actually listened to it)
9) TBRO - Worst Mk2 album ever
8) ROTD - Worst Mk Morse album
7) HOBL - I actually like this album, just less than the others
6) Infinite - Not bad, but a let down after NW
5) Perfect Strangers - Good, but not as good as others think. To me at least.
4) Abandon - Still a favorie after all these years
3) Bananas - Loved it when it came out, still do
2) Now What - An outstanding album
1) Purpendicular - It was fresh, rejuvenated, and still sounds good to me.

Just cannot ever listen to 'Slaves and Masters'. Most underrated, for me, is 'Battle Rages On'. Bloody excellent record.

Re: The Studio Albums (1984-2017) Ranked
Lets use "single malt scotch whisky" as a comparison.
In 1996, you drink a glass of "Purpendicular Whisky" straight from the distillery without aging it in oak barrel and it taste good.
In 2003, you drink a glass of "Bananas Whisky" straight from the distillery without aging it in oak barrel and it taste good.
In 2008, you drink a glass of "Purpendicular 12 Years Old" and it taste great.
In 2015, you drink a glass of "Bananas 12 Years Old" and it taste not that good anymore.
In short, just like wine, "Purpendicular" taste better with age. In contrast "Bananas" does not age well. Thats my opinion.
