They could save some time not getting us to chant the black night riff or sing long live rock n roll. Is it just me who hates audience participation? I can sing along in the car, I just want to see/hear them play.
Tall people should also be made to stand on their knees or stand at the back

Re: Rainbow - Prague, Czech Republic - 20th April 2018

I thought the band played really tight.

Ronnie seemed to be at odds with audience - the crowd was a bit subdued for whatever reason and I think he felt that he wasn't getting enough of a response.

To be honest I can't really think of another group that has had sing alongs a much as Rainbow (and to a certain extent DP) has traditionally had - perhaps the audience didn't know what was expected of them ... emoticon

I thought the sound and mix was fantastic.

I think now they are really tight and warmed up properly we need a studio album! It did take a few shows though ...

When we discussed the show with our group of friends, we found out that we are separated to three groups - one group totally loved it, one group totally hated it and one group was somewhere in the middle - and that´s where I was.

I´ll start with one little news you never read before - all shows from this tour were recorded (Candice uploaded one pic with a hint about that) and Memories In Rock III is planned. Not surprising news, but still news (hope that some stuff from Prague will appear there).

Regarding the show - it´s simply mixed bag of stuff which is really exceptional and outstanding with stuff where it simply dont work at all. Semi-instrumental Temple Of The King was nice surprise, Street Of Dreams wasnt the strongest moment, but in case of unrehearsed track, it sounded surprisingly well, but honestly - I´m not big fan of that song. What surprised me was absence of All Night Long (it would be great crowd pleaser). There is one thing which is obvious - they made a huge step forward since very first 2016 shows, but it still may be much better, it has much stronger potential - if the strongest moment of the night would be "main level" of the show, it would be really good band. As I said at our meeting after the show - they have really strong moments and also they have some really weak moments, and for me, one of the weakest one was final encore... Burn should be dropped - it´s played way too slow, changing the riff is really annoying and Ritchie really struggle with that solo part (there is one part where guitarist and keyboard player simply "must" play in perfect unisono and it didnt work at all).

About band members, Bob and David didnt "bother" me as I was worried, Ronnie is fine (but a bit generic - he has no unique "quality" or character in his voice) rock singer - he is fine with Dio material, but weak with IG´s stuff (Strangers was very bad). Musically the strongest guy in a band is Jens - his playing was great...

The strong moments:
Stargazer, improvised long solo part in Child In Time, Mistreated

P.S.: I have to admit that at one moment I was a bit worried (I was seated at tribune but relatively close to the stage) about the concert, because something very unusual happened - photographers were in the pit ALL THE TIME - throughout the WHOLE show, not just for first two or three songs - and once Ritchie kneeled to the stage and he gently slapped a security guy in front of stage after fifth or 6th song and later talked to Ronnie and pointed to the photographers. But they stayed there all night long. emoticon

thanks for the review.
I noticed the weird post from Candice on instagram, with a picture of a road case with "captured" on the side.
I thought this hinted at filming the show, as "captured" is probably more common to use about filming...
Have to say I'm disappointed that they haven't done any filming this tour. I'll welcome an audio only release with open arms, but it seems a bit lazy and cheap to stick with audio only. The cost of recording audio of a gig is next to nothing these days

Sync up the CD with YouTube might be the route

A good show, significant improvement when compared to Loreley. Some surprises in the shape of Street of Dreams and I Surrender (did not check the setlist earlier), however - what a problem it is to learn the TotK lyrics by heart, Ronnie???
Great playing from Ritchie in the middle section of Mistreated which stood out also 2 years ago, it has to be said. Good, beefy sound, with keyboards pushed more to the front. Generally, a very enjoyable event and what a way to celebrate the 50th anniversary of DP's first show emoticon

Just got back from Prague, amazing night…….. where does one start.

The first thing to say is how loud yet clear the sound was, the performance level as others have said at a higher level than the last 2 years and totally enjoyable.

A real spirit of improvisation in DTC and CIT for example, some said the band were ‘lost’. Not so, just a willingness to improvise and take chances that has been all but forgotten in today’s.
RR seemed to have a bit more attitude this time, seemed to be upset when RB started DTC, stalking off…… probably just enjoying it so much he didn’t want to stop singing.

Street of dreams and Temple were a bit ragged but still most welcome additions to the set.

the guitar sound was in places quite sublime, TOTK and Stargazer for example, other places seemingly less so.

I should add both SOD and Highway star were played at the sound check mid afternoon, without RB and RR it has to be said.

Thanks DH.

The sound from where I was standing in Berlin was excellent too. I agree about the improvisation - it was great to watch.

Listen to Memories in Rock II, and you'll hear that Ronnie has problems with the lyrics in many songs, which I find borderline insulting (SotW, PS, Perfect Strangers). Those are classic tracks, people sing along to [sign in to see URL] singer should KNOW them.

In fact that's my main and (maybe) only problem with MiRII.

Not sure Romero is taking it massively seriously. Maybe the "it's just for fun" attitude has rubbed off on him?

Did you like Bob's blue bass with the rainbow stripe?
