Re: Waiting for a Sign Well, listening to the full song. I didn't expect this. It sounds like something he could have written in 5 minutes and recorded in 15. But still, this bluesy groove has Bad Company written all over it and so it's enjoyable. Ritchie of course still has great gusto improvising. I'd welcome a whole album of material in this vein. Romero is ok.
Re: Waiting for a Sign It's not enough. It doesn't make me sit straight up and listen I'm afraid.
There is some nice guitar there but not enough passion.

Yes some nice playing BUT the real magic has all but departed that's why it didn't make you sit up and listen. Its still clearly Blackmore, the lights are on but the house is nearly empty now.
Listen to the backing when the vocals start......
Its a BN track through and through which he's randomly dubbed some guitar over the top of to make it sound like it was a planed Rock track. This was probably intended for the next BN CD, in there ever is another one. Seemingly Candice wrote it, or the words presumably and they are pretty much drivel as well, so probably she actually wrote them instead of "borrowing" them hence they are what they are.
Like someone said 5 minutes to think it up and 15 mins to record it.

Yes. It's clearly a BN track with Ronnie singing. It's a good song but it could have been a lot better with a little more effort put in it. The guitar runs are boring and uninteresting -it gets better towards the end but there is no real magic. A shame because I still think Blackmore has it, but he would need a real producer who could push him a little and also have them all record as a band, interacting with each other.

Yes I agree. Its interesting what you say about a producer oushing him. I have a friend who relased a CD about 10 years ago, his first CD and it was really really good. He then, over the next few years, released another 4 CD's all of which he self produced and with each CD they got more and more dull and basically boring, even his vocal went from being great to being very average. It was becuase he was sat there himslef recoding something and then persuading himself it was really good when in fact someelse would have said.... "that pretyy sh1t...you need to try again". So you may well be right that Blackmore is in a similar position as there's nobody saying to him "btw Ritchie..... thats p1sh" Certianly it seems that way. He decides what to and how to record stuff and then he release whatever twaddle he's come up with.
I do think he might be better to either properly retire or perhaps just play the old Rainbow stuff as he is doing but forget trying to break new ground which he no longer really seems capable of doing. I hope to be surprised but Sadly, and I do mean very very sadly, the magic is definitely waning now, hardly a surprise hes just getting old, disgracefully now!!
Compare today's playing with the drive and determination / fire in these clips ............
this as Blackmore when he really had the magic!
