Anniversaries mean more to record companies than they do to the bands or the fans.

Let's play "count the anniversary collections (with all the tracks you've got 100 times)" this year emoticon

i guess you're both right. The record companies get most profit of these "anniversary" hypes, fans come second, bands come last in case they're interested at all.

Yes, and most of them probably having Mk II tracks only, completely ignoring the fact that of course all episodes of the band are parts of these 50 years.

The first 2 songs RB and JL wrote together in Dec 1967 was supposedly And the Address and Mandrake Root. It would be nice if the band could play these to celebrate 50 years.

Re: 50 years of dP

I'm surprised some record company didn't take the opportunity to release something that would mark the 50 years of dP. Ok, there's the recent "Fire in the sky" anthology, but it clearly wasn't an anniversary thing.

Remember, to celebrate the 25th anniversary, they got the MKII back together!
And for the 50 they can't even come up with a good Live release or a box set with some prev unreleased Live recordings or something?!?

I guess 2018 is still young, but we would have heard something by now, right?

If anything, they will throw out the usual "Best of" thing for some cash-in. Which also was the purpose for bringing Mk II together in 1993. It weren't musical reasons, and as we know, it didn't last long.

Yes, I'd like to see some unreleased stuff being released too, but I don't need some "anniversary" hype for that. I hope that some interesting things will see the light once the band is history and they can't milk a living cow any more.

It didn't last long, but we got a great tour and some amazing live performances from the band.
Wouldn't want to be without it.

...we also got Gillan back. As it turned out, he was essential for late career Purple.

We don't know how it would have worked out if they had got another decent singer. Until 1993 everybody thought that DP without Blackmore wouldn't work.

However, of course Gillan's return had to do with the 25th anniversary. I wouldn't have anything against an ex-member returning for the 50th anniversary as well.

A good ENDING should be on April 20, 2018 in Tastrup, Denmark.

But I think Gillan should END it the day he performs his first gig with DP sometime in June/July 2019.
