Re: Collecting Deep Purple studio albums on vinyl

As the anniversary editions came out, I sold/traded off my original versions, with the exception of the autographed ones, those I kept. My cd copy of HoBL is the original one with all of the extended versions. I did buy the remastered version when it came out (along with PS), but once I discovered they were the album length versions, I traded it as well.

It's a good thing that I kept my original CD which I bought in the late 1980s or early 1990s, I don't remember but it was on Polydor label. The longer version is better than the shorter new version in my opinion.

It's because I'm a fan and a collector. Here are some more of the reasons.

In case of IN ROCK....
CDs:
1. Warner Bros (US) given by relative in US.
2. EMI (UK)
3/4. Anniversary Edition (2-copies) and when I saw it on sale 2 years later, I bought another one.
LPs:
5. Warner Bros (US)
6. Friday Music (US)
7. Japanese pressing
I'm planning to buy my 8th copy in vinyl on EMI label.

In case of STORMBRINGER....
LPs:
1. Warner Bros (Original US pressing)
2. Friday Music label
3. UMC label
CDs:
1. EMI (UK)
2. Remastered Edition (2CD)

Others:
I had to buy a new ones, because few of the CDs are oxidizing, not sure if thats the right word. The sound is still good and okay though.

The bottom line is different pressings, different labels, different artwork, different countries that made them, bonus tracks, etc, etc,

If only I have not lost my original vinyl LPs in the early 1980s, I will have more copies of the classic albums.

fair enough mate thats quite a collection enjoy emoticon

I'm not enjoying because my collection is "incomplete", I have no "Bananas" and "Abandon" on my vinyl collection, so I'm not happy. emoticon

You can go to youtube and type "my deep purple vinyl collection" and you can view rock fans who have multiple copies of each album.

Yep, I bought it when it was released. I also had the cassette and vinyl and listened to the cassette in the car on the way home and once I got home, I put the cd on...that's when I noticed the running time differences of the tracks, especially TUL, TSA and Strangeways.

I just looked at the cd and its on the Mercury label pressed in W Germany.

I did order Infinite-Gold Edition online, still waiting for it, now I have 4 copies of Infinite.

How did that happen, let me explain.

I bought it on vinyl format after four months or more when it was released. Then I saw the Deluxe Boxset with the 10" singles and others, which I bought quickly, so at that time I have 2-vinyl LP, 1-CD, that's 3-copies of Infinite. When my Gold Edition arrived, thats gonna 4. emoticon

Maybe in some years the cassette edition of "Infinite" will be as much sought after as the vinyl of "Bananas" now ;-)

Cassette tapes are also making a comeback, it would also be cool to have a collection on cassette tapes.

Re: Collecting Deep Purple studio albums on vinyl

The downside of collecting "brand-new vinyl records" in 2018 base on my experience is the Mark Morse albums.

I have no problem getting copies of the classic years albums "Shades of Deep Purple" to "Come Taste the Band" they are easily available and at reasonable price.

The comeback albums "Perfect Strangers" up to "The Battle Rages On" is also easy to get online.

The Mark Morse "Purpendicular", "Now What" and "Infinite" is also easy and available since "NW" and "Infinite" is still new albums.

"Rapture of the Deep" is also easy to get, but at a higher price, I paid an equivalent to more or less three albums, man I have to borrow money. 😭

When I saw it online "Bananas" is equivalent to more or less ten albums!!! 😭😭😭
It seems that "no" record company is interested in releasing "Abandon" on vinyl, I hope I'm wrong.

Please, reissue "Bananas" on vinyl.
