I do wonder what TBRO would have been like if JLT did lyrics and vocals on it. I imagine it would have been a very different album alltogether.

As I wrote earlier, TBRO is one of my favorites. I can't imagine Joe Lynn Turner singing to those (hard rock) backing tracks. Sounded like DP wanted to rock again post S&M; and Joe Lynn Turner wasn't the right man for the job. The guy Ian Gillan, you know, the one who's still singing with the band was obviously, the correct choice.

True, but still it makes a suitable comparison to the other two. The mkII line up gathered this time for one album only, and so all three albums compared in this thread was released between albums from other lineups. emoticon

I could not agree more!

Still I find it intruiging to try imagine the same backing tracks, perhaps somewhat differently mixed, but with JLT writing lyrics and doing vocals. Album title, songtitles, melodies, not even mentioning the difference in vocal sound, range and style. It's fascinating how much difference one band member can make. As in this case, change the singer (only) and it becomes a totally different band.
