Re: Painful and Embarrassing

I agree that reading is not a major sin, but it is annoying to me: David, your meeting notes example is not really correct - a meeting has two or more parties discussing something, and it's bound to be interactive, as well as taking a hundred different directions. So it's perfectly normal for you to carry along notes to be sure all the points get across and nothing is forgotten, no matter what the other part says/does. But I would imagine that if your meetings consisted in a monologue of yours, occasionally interrupted by applause, and you would do it a hundred times a year, after a while you would go in without notes.
The other reason it bothers me is that the lyrics are largely his own, with bits coming from RG.

I don't see why it's a big deal. I'm a professional, and I still have to read my notes when I'm in a meeting at work emoticon

But surely you don't have the same meeting everyday a 150 times a year? Although I must admit it feels like I do emoticon

If the singer has to read his lyrics from some sheet or screen, it's no rock'n'roll any more for me. Rock'n'roll is something else then reciting a Christmas poem. In a classical concert it's ok, everyone has his sheet there.

Johnny´s Band were Roger´s lyrics and I think (but I´m not sure here) that All I Got Is You was described as made mainly by Roger with help from IG.

In checking out some of the videos from the IGB and Gillan days, I don't see him using lyric sheets. The same with the available MKII vids. He used them for Sabbath, even towards the end of the tour. He used them in Toledo when I saw them. I would think that by that time he would know the words.

The strange thing is, he still botches up the verses for HS and ST quite often. Go figure.

If I want to singalong with the band at the show, it's annoying when the singer messes up the lyrics.

You see I don't think it is nitpicking to expect the singer to know the words to his own bands songs. It is just a basic concert-going expectation.

It also depends what do you mean by botching.... Singing lyrics different than they are on studio version? emoticon
