Nice to read something from you again, Celtic. Maybe I'm wrong, but my memory tells me, that after the release of rapture there were much more negativ comments here than positive ones. And still you can hardly read something positive about rapture on this [sign in to see URL] least, that's my impression.

Hi Friedhelm,

What you are saying may be true, ROTD rarely gets positive reviews anywhere not just on this forum.
However this may just be caused by people not thinking it is a very good album. It surely doesn't make the forum in general as anti-current line up.

boards like these are rarely the place for the middle ground. you either really like something, or you don't.
I follow several bands to the extent that I follow Purple. It's the same with every single one; where the hard core fans meet, they either love it, or hate it. INSERT PRODUCT HERE...

I've tried to warm up to ROTD, but I just don't like it at all.
Bought the vinyl fairly recently, which is supposed to be the best version by far in terms of fidelity. Maybe that will make me view the album in a slightly new light, but the songs are the same emoticon

Just one addition to original topic - this is the picture I mentioned in case of EP´s legendary Aloha show from 73:

I have no issues with IG and lyrics from a sheet. If he was a hired gun who didn't bother to do his job in a legendary band, it would have been different.
But he's not.

He's a professional singer in a professional [sign in to see URL]'s not acceptable.
It's [sign in to see URL] from a sheet while singing along to music.

If you think that is acceptable then your expectations are pretty low.

I would have problems with that if he would read "everything" no matter whether it´s new or old.... he is doing that only with new tracks which arent "burnt" to his memory yet. As someone who always had an issue with remembering poems, I´m a bit more tolerant probably. emoticon

It's all opinion [sign in to see URL] and mine, no right or wrong.
 I'm cool with either. emoticon

I don't see why it's a big deal. I'm a professional, and I still have to read my notes when I'm in a meeting at work emoticon

I can't remember when I first saw Gillan reading lyrics, it must be a few tours ago, and I don't remember even being surprised, let alone outraged. Mind you, by then I was used to the idea as I'd seen Jon Anderson doing the same. I can't remember who else of the big names from the era do it, but I bet there's a lot. And it's not just old guys -- a couple of nights ago, I was at a Mostly Autumn concert and their keyboard player (who's younger than me, so age is no excuse) appeared to be reading sheet music for one song.

If the end product sounds good, it's honestly not a big deal. (Not a big deal to me -- other people can disagree if they want emoticon )

Yes that is true eiricd, at places like FB these LOUD mk II guys tells everyone that mk II is the only form of deep purple.
Often in a very rude form.
