In checking out some of the videos from the IGB and Gillan days, I don't see him using lyric sheets. The same with the available MKII vids. He used them for Sabbath, even towards the end of the tour. He used them in Toledo when I saw them. I would think that by that time he would know the words.

The strange thing is, he still botches up the verses for HS and ST quite often. Go figure.

Go figure just how important this is to all the people who is not nitpicking everything..

You see I don't think it is nitpicking to expect the singer to know the words to his own bands songs. It is just a basic concert-going expectation.

It also depends what do you mean by botching.... Singing lyrics different than they are on studio version? emoticon

I didn't mention botching the lyrics, so I didn't mean anything.
What I said was I do not believe it nitpicking expecting the singer to know the words of his own bands songs. This is surely what everyone expects when they pay good money to go to a concert?

If so, it's a good thing this is the goodbye tour. Some of us can sleep without worries then..

If the singer has to read his lyrics from some sheet or screen, it's no rock'n'roll any more for me. Rock'n'roll is something else then reciting a Christmas poem. In a classical concert it's ok, everyone has his sheet there.

What's more embarrassing? Singer reading lyrics from a sheet or singer messing up the lyrics? What's more rock'n'roll? Singer singing lyrics just like they are on the album or singer changing the lyrics like for example the guitar player does with his solos?

Pure rock'n'roll for me is when the singer knows the lyrics. Sheets on stage feels like classical music to me, messing up lyrics like comedy, Helge Schneider or something like that - or some amateur band not knowing their stuff.

Changing lyrics deliberately is something else. That can be very entertaining and add something to the song. For example I really like the lyrics from the Beat Club 1971 take of No No No where Gillan sings words which aren't on the studio cut.

Gillan forgetting lyrics is one thing. Imagine the mess if the musicians forgot the tunes. emoticon

Luckily they don't (other than occasional mistakes)

Watched the BBC show on the YouTube last [sign in to see URL] tried to. I got through Uncommon Man and turned it off. Underwhelmed would be a good word to describe my feelings.

Ow irony.
How low whe have sunk.

After years of evidently terrible singing which depressed the most of us we now discuss how about his reading.

Oh yes, inbetween we had to suffer his wardrobechoice with the utter low depths of the white clothes I associate with mental ill people in a institution.

Next phase : will we bother if he comes on in a wheelchair or not?

Were the white clothes as bad as when he came out in the see through plastic with nothing on underneath to do WABMC with some orchestra? Anything to distract from his very-diminished vocals, I guess. emoticon
