Birmingham

Setlist:

Time for Bedlam
Fireball
Bloodsucker
All I Got is You
Uncommon Man
The Surprising
Lazy
Birds of Prey
KAYBD
PS
ST
SOTW

Encore:
Hush
Black Night

Really excellent setlist, the removal of SKOW improves the set 100%. I have been critical of ST in the past but it worked really well on Friday, certainly preferable to SKOW.
The first hour of the gig was fantastic, mainly concentrating on more recent songs helped IG.
This was my first DP gig for many years and I am so pleased that I decided to go. As usual with Deep Purple both SM and DA were the stars for me, but also a special mention for IP who was incredible given his recent health problems.

Re: Birmingham

Yes, all the new songs work really well now. And the mix with the classics is near perfect.
Only a few songs from HOBL and Battle could perhaps improve it some.

To wish for something from Burn, Stormbringer, CTTB or Slaves is silly, I know.

I would have preferred TBRO rather that another version of PS, but all in all it would be churlish to complain.

I thought Birds of Prey was the absolute highlight of the show. After the really subdued showing at the BBC show I thought the band were excellent in Birmingham.
I was also back in Birmingham on Saturday when we took our daughter to see Little [sign in to see URL] very different show ☺

Loved the Iron Man snippet by Don

And that was cheeky slipping in a bit of The Final Countdown

Wish they would do Going Down in full rather than Hush

Yes, Don was excellent and I spotted both of the above. What was great was it proved once and for all if DP play new songs the show doesn't suffer but improves.
My expectations were set low, the BBC show lowered them, but full arena blew them away.

I didn't watch the BBC show because I wanted to keep the element of surprise.

Both myself and my 13 year old son loved it.

5 songs from the last 2 studio albums - so can't be accused of just recycling MKII material this time. Always a bit gutted if HS falls off the set but nevertheless - awesome!
